Butler Overseas is a premier, three-year global degree program with a comparable cost to Butler’s traditional four-year degree offerings. Below is a detailed breakdown of estimated tuition, housing, meals, and fees for items like travel expenses and excursions.

Meal plans are not available while abroad. Costs for meals are out-of-pocket and vary by semester, as meal and housing arrangements will depend on the location and IFSA site.

The following information is estimated and based on 2026–2027 Butler costs and estimated housing, meals and travel expenses.

For each meal, students will grocery shop and cook in shared kitchens, eat out, or eat meals their homestay host families provide. Homestay meals are included in the housing cost.

Butler Overseas Global Scholars Award

The Butler Overseas Global Scholars Award is a merit-based scholarship awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, and a strong commitment to global learning. Scholars exhibit a desire to engage meaningfully with diverse cultures, perspectives, and communities, and show the potential to thrive in Butler Overseas’ distinctive international degree experience.

Recipients of the Butler Overseas Global Scholars Award will join a cohort of globally-minded students who are committed to using their international experiences to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Scholars are expected to actively engage in program activities, participate in cohort experiences, and reflect on their intercultural learning throughout their time in Butler Overseas.

The Butler Overseas experience is designed for students who view the world as their classroom. Through immersive academic and cultural experiences across multiple countries and continents, scholars develop the knowledge, adaptability, and global competencies needed to lead in an interconnected world.

Scholarship Instructions, Deadlines, and Next Steps

Applicants
Submit the Common Application and all supporting materials by November 1.
Complete the Butler Overseas Global Scholars Award application by November 15. (Access to the application will be made available to students on their status page after their application for admission is submitted.)

Award Amounts
Awards range from $10,000 to $20,000 per year.

Selection Criteria
Candidates must have applied and been admitted to Butler Overseas by the November 1 Early Action deadline. Students must demonstrate strong academic rigor and achievement, a commitment to global education, openness to diverse perspectives, and the potential to contribute positively to the Butler Overseas community.

Notification
Award notifications will be sent by late December.

Renewable?
Yes. Awards are renewable provided students maintain the renewal criteria outlined in their scholarship offer and remain actively engaged in Butler Overseas programming and community expectations.
