Butler Community Arts School

The Butler Community Arts School offers performing arts instruction to anyone ages 5 and up, including adults. We’re located on the Butler University campus in Indianapolis, Indiana, and our instructors are trained Butler students known as “Teaching Fellows.” At the Butler Community Arts School, it is our mission to provide quality arts instruction at an affordable price while also developing community involvement and civic-mindedness in Butler University students.

Our offerings are numerous—private music lessons, group classes, and summer camps—and our prices are affordable. Whether you or your child is a budding artist or has previous arts experience, you will find a program that meets your needs at the Butler Community Arts School.

Private Music Lessons

Private music lessons are offered on campus in most instruments (piano, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, guitar, percussion, music theory, and composition) for ages 5 through adult; some instruments have a minimum age requirement. We accept students of all levels of playing ability, including total beginners. Private lessons are based on two 14-week semesters in the fall and spring with an optional summer session. Enrollment is ongoing and scheduling is flexible. Need-based scholarships are available. Learn More.

Group Classes/Programs

At the Butler Community Arts School, we offer our students the opportunity to learn individually and also as part of a group. Individuals taking private lessons also may participate in group classes. For more details on our class offerings, check out our class descriptions.

Summer Camps

Summer is an exciting time at BCAS; we currently offer 14 annual summer camps in a variety of music and arts disciplines. Most of our camps serve students ages 7-11 or 12-18 with an Adult Big-Band Workshop for adult amateur musicians. Camp registration opens in January. Check out our summer camps page for more information.
