About Me:

Hey everyone, I am Cathryn. I am going into my 5th year of pharmacy at Butler University. I am also working toward a minor in Science, Technology & Society! In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and writing. I've been working on NaNoWriMo and am hoping to be published at some point in the near future as well. Most of the time you can catch me studying in the library or browsing the Internet. Oh, and did I mention that I got married last summer?

Happy October!!

I love October! Curtis and I started dating in October of 2005. Fall might be my favorite season, mostly because I love sweaters more than I love coats, and you can wear nice boots without getting them mucked up in snow. Additionally, I want to get married in October of 2013. Basically October and I should be together.

Campus during fall is so pretty too!

And another thing.

STARBUCKS PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES. What was unfortunate last year was that, during this time, I was slowly investigating an occasional (but increasing in frequency) all-encompassing, life-halting stomach pain (I’m exaggerating) that would crop up at the weirdest times. Finally, with the power of medical databases, I deduced that my stomach pain was correlated with the amount of milk intake I had. Including pumpkin spice lattes–well, and all other lattes, for that matter. My doctor told me to self-diagnose myself with lactose intolerance, which I’m pretty sure is what I decided.

I have a bunch of theories about how and why I developed it, but I won’t go into it now. I also love milk so this has been a problem.

For about a year, the idea of lattes repulsed me, for fear of getting those stomach pains. Luckily, that’s worn off, and I just pop a lactase supplement with my latte, and now I’m BACK IN BUSINESS. (It’s really hard to take a pill with burning hot coffee, let me tell you.)

The other thing about October that I love is HALLOWEEN. Unfortunately, clusters are scheduled over Halloween weekend. I will complain more about it when the time comes. For now, let’s reminisce about how I built Mandalorian armor in the dorm room sophomore year.

My Schedule, and Why it Annoys Me

My schedule is weird this semester.

I am a P2 pharmacy student, if you recall the giant book I posted last week. For P1s and P2s, fall semester is the time to get in required general electives courses. If you’re an overachiever like me (or you really have nothing better to do), you may have these requirements filled through AP high school courses, or sliding in extra electives during freshman and sophomore years. I did both.

So, this semester, I have a weird schedule to help accommodate my fellow classmates who made need to take a history class in the morning. Right now, I have Principles of Drug Action I at 9 AM Monday-Wednesday. My following class is at noon, then my afternoons are more or less filled, though often with 1 to 2 hour breaks in between those. Having gaping holes in my schedule has been throwing me off. Since high school, I’ve gotten used to having a packed, back-to-back lecture schedule, which usually ended by 2 PM at the latest. Nowadays I’m lazing around campus or making the trek back and forth from the Apartment Village until 5PM.

This drives me bonkers. If I was any semblance of a well-to-do student, I could perhaps use those gaps to sit at the library and catch up on studying. But, sadly, the schedule has caused me to go on an odd eating schedule that consists of whenever I can get back to the Village, which is whenever my classes are over, which is exactly during times that are not meal times. In short, I don’t stick around at the library too often, unless I pack a lunch.

I don’t pack lunches.

I now eat a small breakfast when I get up, a light lunch at noon, an even lighter snack around 3 or 4, then if I have my internship that day, I eat dinner at 9. It’s strange, but I’m sure the moment I get used to it, the semester will be over.

But don’t worry. I won’t die. I eat a lot of pizza rolls and I drink my orange juice. ;) I’m still working on vegetables.

It is 12:32 AM and I need to sleep. You should too.
