Staff<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/nav>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"content-block-content-container is-layout-constrained\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aims &amp; Competencies<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interns will carry a diverse caseload at the Butler University&#8217;s Counseling and Consultation&nbsp;Services. &nbsp;Interns will conduct individual therapy, initial assessments, psychological assessments, consultations, outreach programs, crisis intervention and supervision at Counseling and Consultation Services. &nbsp;If available, interns are encouraged to co-lead a group each semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interns will be exposed to models characteristic of both traditional counseling psychology and clinical psychology approaches to applied practice; i.e., interns will learn to view clients by using developmental frameworks common in university environments as well as models of psychopathology typical of clinical\/medical settings. &nbsp;The overarching goal is for interns to gain experiences that contribute to their professional identity as Health Service Providers in psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aims<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Interns will become competent to provide scientifically-based clinical services in varied treatment modes utilizing a broad range of skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interns will demonstrate competence in dealing with issues of individual difference, diversity and multicultural issues in their work as psychologists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interns will integrate professional and personal development to function as competent Health Service Providers in psychology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Competencies of Internship Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Interns will display competence in intervention and are expected to:<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Establish and maintain effective relationships with therapy clients<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Develop evidence-based intervention plans linked to service delivery goals<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Effectively implement interventions informed by the current scientific literature, assessment results, diversity and contextual variables<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Develop a treatment plan for each client based on collaborative and continual re-evaluation of goals within a theory-based case conceptualization<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Evaluate treatment effectiveness and modify intervention consistent with evaluation<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships within group<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Utilize group interventions that are evidence-based<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Show group leadership skills by articulating group dynamics &amp; phases of development<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate ethical behavior and adhere to professional standards providing group therapy<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity issues within group therapy<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Show receptivity to feedback for group leadership skills<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate effective clinical skills with a wide range of clients<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interns will display competence in assessment measures and methods used in a university counseling center and are expected to:<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Select and apply empirically-based assessment methods; collect relevant data using multiple methods appropriate to the cultural context and assessment goals<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Interpret results following current research\/prof standards while guarding against decision-making biases<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Communicate orally and in writing the findings and implications of assessments in an accurate and effective manner sensitive to a range of audiences<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate current knowledge of diagnostic classification systems, functional and dysfunctional behaviors, including consideration of client strengths and psychopathology<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate understanding of human behavior within its context (e.g., family, social, societal and cultural)<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate the ability to apply the knowledge of functional and dysfunctional behaviors including context to the assessment and\/or diagnostic process<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interns will display competence in both consultation and interprofessional skills and are expected to:<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Demonstrate knowledge and respect for the roles of other professionals<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate knowledge of consultation models and practices<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Apply knowledge of how to consult with clients, other professionals, or groups<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Consult with senior staff as appropriate<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Show flexibility in accepting outreach assignments<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Design outreach programs effectively using literature on outreach programming<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate\u00a0initiative in developing and implementing outreach programs<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Prepare adequately for outreach programs and be timely in completing projects<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Show receptivity to feedback regarding outreach efforts<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity issues in design and presentation of programs<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Take responsibility for engaging practicum students in outreach efforts and encourage development of their outreach skills<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interns will display competence in research and are expected to:<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate and disseminate research or other scholarly activities at the local, regional, or national level<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate familiarity with the treatment literature, particularly regarding empirically supported interventions<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interns will display competence in communication and interpersonal skills and are expected to:<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Establish effective, collegial relationships with peers, staff, and supervisors (e.g., volunteers readily\/team mentality, makes training needs known, and accepts\/provides feedback with staff\/peers)<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Communicate clearly using verbal, nonverbal, and written skills that are informative, well-integrated, and professional<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Negotiate differences and handles conflict satisfactorily<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Develop effective relationships with those receiving professional services<\/li>\n\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interns will display competence in supervision and are expected to:<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Demonstrate knowledge of supervision models and practices and apply this \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0knowledge to supervision of trainees<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Establish supervisory relationship that fosters supervisee development, creates a safe learning environment, and facilitates positive client outcomes<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Effectively address cultural differences within the supervisory relationship and in relation
