For Faculty & Staff
Faculty today are increasingly turning towards integrating community service into the classroom, called service-based learning, in an effort to give students real-world experience and a connection to the community. If you’d like to know how your organization can be part of a class that integrates service-learning, contact Mary Gospel, Interim Faculty Director of the Center for Citizenship & Community, at 317-940-8353 and by email at mgospel@butler.edu.
If you are planning a project and need access to reflection information or would like to learn more about the Five Critical Elements, please feel free to contact us at the Volunteer Center, and we can assist you!

Fall Alternative Break and Alternative Spring Break are unique student organizations that spend their scheduled breaks from school helping others in a planned service-learning experience. Advisors participate to provide support, assistance, and van driving for students. It is an exceptional opportunity for Faculty/Staff to interact with students as well as giving back to the community.
Fall Alternative Break (FAB) The students involved in this volunteer organization spend their Fall Break improving the living conditions of the individuals they serve. Each year, a work site is chosen and the students supply the manual labor necessary to meet the fundamental or emergency needs of the site.
Alternative Spring Break (ASB) The students involved in this volunteer organization spend their Spring Break improving the living conditions of the individuals they serve.
