Six students presenting strategic communication plan at their final senior capstone
Strategic Communication

PR and Advertising

PR and advertising

Public relations practitioners deal with reputation. Advertising executives work closely with products, images and ideas. Nowadays, each must be able to work effectively with the other. Most modern agencies recognize that the lines between these disciplines are blurring. Students who choose to specialize in either public relations or advertising at Butler learn the skills of their chosen field. But they also learn group involvement through upper-level, project-based courses. They learn from their peers in student organizations like the Public Relations Student Society of America, and our student chapter of the American Advertising Federation’s Ad Club. In addition to regularly scheduled speakers and other events, Ad Club participates annually in the National Student Advertising Competition, where it has won national and regional recognition for its campaigns. PRSSA members, meantime, engage in the National Bateman Competition, creating public relations campaigns for national clients. Strategic Communication students leave school with the skills that not only help them work effectively in the field of their choice, but that will also help them work effectively with those in neighboring fields.
