Group Fitness Classes
Group fitness classes are a great way to learn a variety of exercise styles. Through group fitness, you are exposed to a community of people with similar goals who are seeking a healthy lifestyle. We offer a variety of exciting, fun, and dynamic group fitness classes on a weekly basis that are free with your HRC membership. Below you will find information on the various classes offered each semester.

Customized Group Fitness is a Recreation & Wellness service available for students, faculty, and staff who would like to reserve a group fitness instructor to teach a class for a special event or for their department, office, organization, etc.

When are classes?
Class times will change each semester based off of the availability of our instructors and the Butler University academic calendar. To stay up to date on our group fitness schedule each semester, check back to this web page or follow @bu.fitness on Instagram.
Do I have to sign up?
Prior to the covid-19 pandemic participants did not have to sign up for classes. Due to new restrictions and polices, participants are required to reserve their spot in class. Reservations become available at 12pm 3 days prior to the class you want to take. Follow this link to reserve your spot via the HRC workout reservation system.
Do Group Fitness classes cost money?
The cost of classes is already included in the student activity fees, which all full-time students pay at the beginning of the school year. Group fitness classes are also free for anyone with a valid HRC membership. Special Event classes typically cost $5 upon registration. If you are interested in planning a Customized Group Fitness class for a private event or group, a small fee will be requested. Can Faculty and Staff take classes?
Yes, all classes are open to all Faculty and Staff members.
Where are the classes located?
Most of the Group Fitness Classes are located in The Wet Room, on the lower level of the HRC. Some classes are also held in The Zone, which will always be indicated on the Group Fitness schedule.
What are Special Event classes?
Special Event classes are offered once a month each semester. These are classes that are typically not offered on the weekly Group Fitness schedule. Information for Special Event classes can be found on the website, on social media, and posted on flyers throughout the HRC.
How early should I arrive for class?
We recommend arriving 10 minutes prior to the start time of class if you are able to. New participants may want to arrive early and introduce themselve to the instructor so the instructor and give them a preview of the class.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic we are requiring participants to reserve their spot in class in order to regulate the number of participants we have and to allow everyone a fair chance at participating.
To reserve a spot, follow this link and click the "reserve your spot" button. This will take you to the HRC workout reservation system where you will select the day and class you would like to attend.
Reservations for classes will become available at 12pm three days prior to the class you want to take. This year we are limited to 8 participants per class, so we recommend reserving your spot as early as possible in order to get into class.
Cancellations can only be made up to 24 hours before your class starts.
Before a group fitness class this year, please be aware of the following polices:
- Masks must be worn at all times, unless you are taking a drink of water
- Participants must remain in their designated, physically distanced space during class
- Reserve your spot for class online ahead of time using the HRC workout reservation system
- Reservation cancellations can only be made up to 24 hours prior to class
- Arrive to the HRC 10 minutes prior to the start of class
- Be prepared to show the group fitness instructor proof of your reservation
- Bring your own water bottle - water fountains will not be accessible, but water filler stations will be available
- Do not share equipment with other participants
- Use the provided wipes to sanitze your quipment after use
GFit Fest 2021
GFit Fest is a group fitness event being held on Saturday April 17th. During this event, the Office of Recreation and Wellness will host six back to back group fitness classes at the HRC. All classes, except for Cycle, will be held on the lawn in front of the HRC (weather permitting). Indoor classes will be held on the gym courts inside the HRC.
During the event, Bon Appetit will provide refreshments, including a DIY sport drink station and other healthy snacks. Each participant will also recieve a few raffle tickets and enter to win various giveaways.
