As a beloved, standout member of Butler’s two-time NCAA Finals basketball team, Andrew wore the #44. On January 12, 2016, at the age of 25, Andrew passed away following a two-year battle with cancer, which involved a bone marrow transplant. Throughout his battle, Andrew and his wife Sam made it their mission to raise critical awareness for Be The Match.
Butler’s live bulldog mascot, Trip was honored to be named a national ambassador for Be The Match and now serves as the front man for Project 44, carrying Andrew’s important work on. Project 44’s goal is simple—register enough potential donors in the Be The Match registry to save 44 lives. With a 1:430 ratio of registrants to matches, 18,920 new and available registry members are needed.
Patients like Andrew are searching for a cure and they need you. Click here to join the Be The Match Registry today or text ‘ANDREW’ to 38470—your donation could save a life! Thank you for helping us celebrate Andrew’s memory, and don’t forget to share your story on social media by using #Project44.
