Staff Highlight—Missy Parsons-Horton

Missy Parsons-HortonAcademic Program Coordinator for Experiential Education

Certified Medical Assisting from Professional Careers Institute

Working at Butler Since 2012

What are your responsibilities in the PA Program?

I manage scheduling, biographical input for preceptors and students, evaluations, and site orientation information within the E*Value system. I develop best processes for use of E*Value as it relates to scheduling, reports, accreditation requirements, and preceptor tracking and communication. I also manage tracking and reporting of Continuing Medical Education activities provided to our preceptors. I enjoying working on all of these areas in conjunction with the Director of Experiential Education.

What do you like most about your role?

My favorite part of my job is watching the progression of each student as their confidence grows as a clinician from their first rotation through their 11th rotation.

What is your previous work experience?

I worked at Mooresville Family Practice for several years before returning to Professional Careers Institute to teach medical assisting. I then worked as an event coordinator for the NCAA for two years and Eli Lilly and Company for 11 years before coming to Butler.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I live with my husband Steve and have three children. My daughter, Victoria (24), and son, Max (20), are both students in the Butler Pharmacy Program. My step-daughter Angela (24) lives in Westfield with my 2 granddaughters, LuLu (3) and Kinlee (5). I love hanging out with my granddaughters on the weekends, going to Butler basketball games, and bike rides with my husband.
