Staff<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/nav>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wysiwyg__wrapper wysiwyg__wrapper--hasSidebar\">\n\t\t\t<!-- content from editor -->\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wysiwyg__content wysiwyg__contentContainer\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-admission\">Admission <\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-larger-font-size\" id=\"h-respiratory-therapy-program-pathways\">Respiratory Therapy Program Pathways<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission to the Respiratory Therapy program varies based on whether you\u2019re applying directly from high school or transferring with prior coursework.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are a high school student or have started\u2014but not yet completed\u2014college level prerequisite coursework for a Respiratory Therapy degree, you can enter Butler University as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.butler.edu\/pharmacy-health\/bachelor-of-health-sciences\/health-sciences-major\/\">Health Sciences major<\/a> with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.butler.edu\/pharmacy-health\/bachelor-of-health-sciences\/health-sciences-major\/pre-respiratory-therapy-concentration\/\">Pre-Respiratory Therapy concentration<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are a prospective transfer student or a Butler student with the necessary prerequisites applying into the three-year professional phase of the program, <a href=\"#h-respiratory-therapy-professional-phase\">proceed to the Respiratory Therapy Professional Phase section<\/a> below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pre-Respiratory Therapy&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students admitted directly from high school will begin as a Health Sciences major with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.butler.edu\/pharmacy-health\/bachelor-of-health-sciences\/health-sciences-major\/pre-respiratory-therapy-concentration\/\">Pre-Respiratory Therapy (Pre-RT) concentration<\/a>, completing the prerequisites needed to apply into the Respiratory Therapy major.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students from high school must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completed Common App to the University, with Pre-RT as the selected major<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.25 weighted (or 3.0 unweighted)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successful completion of the following high school coursework:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>English: 4 years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mathematics: 3 years; This phase includes advanced coursework and hands-on clinical experience. While admission to the major is competitive, each applicant will be carefully considered based on their academic performance and readiness for the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/apply.commonapp.org\/createaccount\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apply to Health Sciences: Pre-RT Concentration<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-respiratory-therapy-professional-phase\">Respiratory Therapy Professional Phase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission to the professional phase of the Respiratory Therapy program is competitive, and each applicant will be carefully considered based on their academic performance and readiness for the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must be accepted to Butler University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The professional phase of the Respiratory Therapy program integrates didactic instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical experiences to develop the skills necessary for excellence in patient care. All students who wish to enter into the professional phase will need the following prerequisites (with a C or better for all math and science courses):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chemistry with lab or equivalent (4 credit hours)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anatomy and Physiology with lab 1 or equivalent (3 credit hours)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anatomy and Physiology with lab 2 or equivalent (3 credit hours)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Statistically Speaking or equivalent (3 credit hours)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microbiology with lab or equivalent (4 credit hours)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychological Inquiry or equivalent (3 credit hours)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical Terminology or equivalent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students may apply to the professional program if they have a minimum of 2.6 GPA and are enrolled in or have successfully completed a minimum of three of the above prerequisite courses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must have completed all seven of the above courses before matriculation in the professional phase of the program. Students must update transcripts and enrollment plans by January 15 of the year they are seeking to be admitted.&nbsp;Students with outstanding requirements may be conditionally admitted and will receive formal admission upon successful completion of all prerequisite coursework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must meet a minimum level of proficiency in the English language and submit proof of this proficiency to the Office of Admission. Minimum proficiency can be met by any of the exams or testing systems on Butler&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.butler.edu\/admission-aid\/international\/english-profiency-requirements\/\">English Proficiency Requirements<\/a> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are required to do a personal interview. All Butler students who are or were Health Sciences students with a Pre-Respiratory Therapy concentration will be guaranteed an interview for the professional phase of the Respiratory Therapy program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/phlp\/php\/publications\/vaccination-laws.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported healthcare facilities<\/a> across the United States are increasingly requiring healthcare workers to be vaccinated for vaccine-preventable diseases to reduce disease outbreaks. Therefore, those who choose not to be vaccinated for personal, religious, or medical reasons are not eligible for admission to the Respiratory Therapy program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Respiratory Therapy program is committed to inclusion.
