No matter what major you choose at Butler, you'll likely need some basic business skills in order to be successful. Adding a business minor to your current major is a great way to be competitive in today's job market. To add a business minor, contact your advisor.

For Non-Business Majors

Business Minor

The Business minor introduces students to the language and tools of business through accounting, economics, information management and business statistics. Students then choose courses to gain a deeper knowledge of business disciplines such as finance, operations management or marketing. (7 courses/21 credit hours) 

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minor

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation minor teaches students basic business concepts in accounting, economics, and marketing. It also includes courses in how to develop and present a business plan for funding and how to foster creativity and innovation in new or existing organizations. (7 courses/21 credit hours) 

Risk Management and Insurance Minor

The Risk Management and Insurance minor provides students with a fundamental understanding of the effect of risks on individuals and organizations. Students learn how to plan, lead, and control the resources and activities of an organization in order to manage and finance its risk of loss cost effectively. (5 courses/18 credit hours)

Healthcare Management Minor

The Healthcare Management minor provides students with a general understanding of business disciplines and allows students to build expertise in the management issues specific to one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the nation. Students will gain a foundation in the healthcare delivery system, healthcare economics, and insurance principles. (7 courses/21 credit hours)

International Business Minor

The International Business minor introduces students to the rich similarities and differences in how people go about their business around the world.  The minor focuses on principles that have universal applicability, along with region-specific discussions of political, legal, economic and cultural dimensions of the various countries that make up the region. (6 courses/18 credit hours) 

Business Law Minor

The Business Law minor gives students basic law vocabulary and foundational theory and practices through introductory accounting and economics. It then gives students an introduction to ethical and legal issues that surround business activities and transactions. (6 courses/18 credit hours) 

Marketing Minor

Having a general understanding of who your customers are, what they are looking for, and determining how to position a product or service in the competitive marketplace can make you valuable to any organization. Students take prerequisite courses in accounting, economics, statistics, and then transition into marketing courses. Management Information Systems Minor

MIS is the study of how technology can be used to solve business problems and create new business opportunities. MIS is different than computer science in that it focuses on how people, business processes and technology interact to meet an organization's goals. The MIS minor complements every major since nearly every industry and profession uses technology. (6 courses/18 credit hours)

Healthcare Management Minor

This minor allows students to gain a foundation in the healthcare delivery system, healthcare economics, and insurance principles. Students can gain additional expertise in healthcare aspects of a particular business discipline or take courses in other colleges that emphasize societal issues, public health, or other specific applications. Management Information Systems Minor

MIS is the study of how people, business processes, and technology interact to meet an organization's goals. MIS answers the question: How can we help people work smarter using technology? Organizations need people who understand both the business and technology, as well as people who can help make the most of existing and future technology. (6 courses/18 credit hours)
