LSB Dean’s Advisory Council
The Dean’s Advisory Council was established to assist the Andre B. Lacy School of Business in offering a business education of the highest quality. The council is composed of business professionals who serve as counsel to the School for proposed changes and innovations. Members help define and implement standards of excellence in faculty-student partnerships, intellectual development and service.

Elaine Bedel was appointed by Governor Holcomb in 2019 to serve as the first Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the newly established Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC), a quasi-government agency focused on sharing Indiana’s story as a great place to live, visit, learn and earn.
Prior to her IDDC appointment, Bedel served as President of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), the state’s lead economic development agency from 2017–2019. Under Bedel’s leadership, the state had consecutive record-breaking years for new job commitments.
Prior to serving the state, Bedel served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Bedel Financial Consulting Inc., a role held since she founded the firm in 1989.
Bedel, who resides in Indianapolis, is an author of a personal finance book and has spoken nationally and internationally sharing her personal finance and investment expertise and experience. Bedel earned a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College and an MBA from Butler University.
Throughout her career, Bedel has been recognized for dedication to her profession and her community. She was inducted into the Indiana Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016 and was recognized as the 2015 Women Business Owner of the year by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). In 2013, Bedel was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame by the Junior Achievement of Central Indiana and received the Financial Planning Association’s “Heart of Financial Planning” Award.
Director and Investment Counselor covering the East Coast Region of the Citi Private Bank
Michael Bennett is a Director and Investment Counselor covering the East Coast Region of the Citi Private Bank.
As an Investment Counselor, Michael is responsible for working with Ultra-High Net Worth individuals, Family Offices and Endowments and Foundations to provide strategies for asset allocation, implementation of investment objectives and risk management. Michael has experience with a range of asset classes including fixed income, interest rates, equities and alternative investments as well as derivative markets. By leveraging the global insights and risk management tools of Citi, Michael is able to deliver customized, comprehensive investment programs for clients.
Prior to joining Citi, Michael was with J.P. Morgan Private Bank for 10 years, most recently as an Executive Director and Investment Specialist in New York City. While at J.P. Morgan, Michael was a part of the Private Bank Opportunistic Investment Council and previously served as an Analyst in the office of the Private Bank CEO.
Michael graduated from Butler University in Indianapolis with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. He is a CFA charter holder and has his Series 7, 63 and 31. Michael is also a competitor and Board Member of the D10 Decathlon and serves as the NYC Board Chair for Good Sports. He resides in New York City.

Mark Bradford serves as the Indianapolis Market President and Chief Business Development Officer for Old National Bank.
Mark graduated with honors from Indiana State University and was with Crowe Chizek (now Crowe) from 1979 to 1990 where he attained the title of Senior Manager.
Mark joined Monroe Bank in 1990 as Chief Financial Officer and was promoted to President, CEO, and Director in 1999. He served in that capacity until 2011, when Monroe Bank was acquired by Old National Bank. Prior to moving into his current position, Mark served as ONB’s North Central Region CEO since 2011 and was promoted in August 2016 with the additional responsibility of serving as the Indianapolis Region CEO.
In addition to his work at Old National, Mark is active in numerous civic and community activities. He currently serves as a board member for the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, Center for Leadership Development, Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, Monroe County Community Foundation, Indy Public Safety Foundation, Indiana State University President’s Advisory Board, Butler University Lacy School of Business Dean’s Advisory Council, and IUPUI Board of Advisors.
He has served as the event chair from 2012 to 2016 for Old National’s 100 Men Who Cook benefitting the Bloomington Hospital Foundation. In 2017 through 2020, he served as the event chair for Old National’s 100 Men Who Cook event in Indianapolis, which benefitted local not for profit organizations, raising approximately $800,000 over the last four years.

Herschel Frierson is the Strategic Networks Leader and a Principal at Crowe LLP with over 24 years of experience. He has done governmental consulting and general consulting. In the past Herschel has assisted communities with municipal bond issues, short and long term financial planning, capital improvement plans, and budget consulting. He has also provided assistance in economic development activities including feasibility studies. In his new role, Herschel is responsible for expanding the firm’s influence with network partners, including associations and creating new opportunities and deepening existing relationships. Herschel focuses on key networks for all industries across the firm and in the market. Herschel also serves on the firm’s leadership team with the Inclusion Excellence Council which focuses on Diversity and Inclusion for the Firm. Herschel also oversees the Firms Business Resource Groups.
Herschel Frierson is the 27th Chairman of the Board of Directors with the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and is a lifetime member. Herschel was recently named by Accounting Today as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting. Herschel has done podcasts, articles and spoke to many organizations as it relates to diversity, equity and Inclusion in the accounting profession. In 2018 Herschel Received the Frank Ross National Outstanding Member of the Year Award from NABA. Herschel has served on various committees and advisory boards in the community. In the past, Herschel served as a National Director with NABA, the chair of Organizational Effectiveness and Personnel. He has also chaired Membership where he focused on Student and Professional Membership Development and Growth. Herschel has served as the Central Region President for NABA. Chairman of the Audit Committee for NABA, chairman of the National Ethics Committee, served as a member of the Audit Committee, secretary to the Central Region, served in various capacities for the Central Region Student Conference and Indianapolis Chapter President. Herschel has also been involved with Center for Leadership Development, Academy of Finance, 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee Member; NFL Community Impact. Herschel is a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc.

Mr. Murphy is presently a Financial Consultant with the Indianapolis law firm of Mallor Grodner LLP and the consulting principal of Murphy Financial Group, P.C.. Jason is a member of BKD National Construction & Real Estate Group and is the East Region team leader. He has more than 16 years of experience providing assurance, accounting and consulting services to both public and private companies. He was named the 2016 Emerging Growth Leader of the construction and real estate group.
He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Indiana CPA Society and Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA). His writing has been published in CFMA: Building Profits magazine, and he is a past chair of the CFMA Publications Advisory Group. Jason currently serves on the CFMA Executive Committee. He is a member of Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana and The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and serves on the AGC program and membership committee.
Jason has served as vice president of the Fishers Redevelopment Commission board. He currently serves on the Deans Advisory Council for Butler University Lacy School of Business and is a past member of the Master of Professional Accountancy Advisory Board and a former chair of the Hamilton Southeastern Academy of Finance advisory board. He also was a finalist for the 2017 and 2014 Indy’s Best and Brightest award in accounting and won the award in 2017.

Branden is a Vice President of Wealth Management, Wealth Management Specialist and financial advisor with Renner Masariu Wealth Management of Raymond James. He joined Raymond James in 2010 and has been in financial services since graduating in 2002 from Butler with a Bachelor of Science in Finance.
Branden currently serves on the Indiana Motor Truck Association Board of Directors and previously as Allied Committee Chair. He has also previously served on the Ovid Butler Society Executive Committee, Young Alumni Board-past President and the Central Indiana Alumni Chapter-past Chairman. He’s a past recipient of the Joseph Irwin Sweeney Alumni Service Award and he and his wife, Jenn, recently received the Ovid Butler Society Foundation Award.
Branden and Jenn also support numerous other charities, with the Midwest Food Bank primarily among them. They reside in Carmel with their two sons, are long time basketball season ticket holders and Butler University President’s Club members.

JoAn Scott is entering her seventh year at the NCAA as the managing director of Men’s Basketball.
Scott came to the NCAA after spending the previous 17 years with Nike, including four years as the director of governing body relations. She joined the company in 1996, serving as manager of Nike Sports Entertainment, before becoming an event manager for Nike Basketball in 1998 and then manager of NCAA Division I conferences and National Federation of High School relations in 1999. She was promoted to director in 2002 and held that post until 2009.
Scott served as assistant to the executive director of USA Basketball from 1987–1990, before becoming the organization’s senior administrative assistant from 1990–1992 and the director of basketball operations from 1992–1996. She was an integral part of the USA Basketball administration that managed the original Dream Team at the 1992 Olympics, as well as the 1996 Olympic team. She also oversaw Nike’s Olympic sports marketing efforts at the 2010 and 2012 Olympic Games. While working for Nike, Scott served as the venue manager for the 2002 FIBA World Basketball Championship in Indianapolis.
She was a two-sport student-athlete at Nebraska-Kearney, from which she received her bachelor’s degree in 1986. She also earned her master’s in business administration from Butler University in 2005 and volunteered as a high school volleyball and basketball coach while working for USA Basketball.
