We are excited to offer three different choruses open to all Butler students through audition: Chorale and Chamber Singers are offered for SATB voice parts and Spectra for treble voices (SA) only. Chorale and Spectra rehearse MWF 12:30-1:50 PM. Chamber Singers rehearses on Friday only 2:00 \u2013 3:30 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who are new to choral ensembles at Butler will need to complete an audition. Students who participated in a choral ensemble during the Fall 2025 semester and wish to participate in that same ensemble do not need to re-audition.(A note about singers returning to the choral program after a hiatus like student teaching or a course conflict: No audition is required to return to University Chorale or Spectra, if that was your last ensemble of enrollment. Any member hoping to return to Chamber Singers after a hiatus in the fall 2025 semester should plan to attend Chamber Singers\u2019 first rehearsal on Friday, January 16<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;for the group audition process.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auditions will take place on Sunday, January 11,\u00a0and Monday, January 12\u00a0(using some of the scheduled rehearsal time). Please\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1Ia4bk7HgRdAlUZOknLu5tbxw6xFg1opmFsdXdsDt1fY\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign up for an audition<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All singers (returners and first-time auditioners) who wish to participate in University Chorale or Spectra should plan to attend the choral ensembles\u2019 first combined rehearsal on Monday, January 12, at 12:30 PM in Lilly Hall 120, even if they have not completed their audition at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to Prepare &amp; Expect <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please come prepared to sing approximately 16 measures or roughly 30 seconds of a song. This could be a song you used for a college audition, a song you\u2019ve studied in voice lessons, or simply a song you prepared on your own. We will provide a piano accompanist, so please bring sheet music if that is appropriate for the style of song with which you are auditioning. You may also sing a cappella (unaccompanied) or accompany yourself on a chordal instrument (i.e. ukulele or guitar). This aspect of the audition allows us to hear you sing something that you feel best shows off your voice. Based upon the song you choose, we may ask to vocalize you briefly to hear other parts of your range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the prepared song, we will ask each auditioner to sight sing a brief excerpt (4 to 8 measures) from a choral score. This aspect of the audition provides us insight into your music reading skills at this time. We know that everyone has different levels of comfort with sightreading, so don\u2019t panic if this isn\u2019t your strongest area. The fall semester audition schedule will be included with Orientation information to incoming students and emailed to all incoming and returning students as well as posted on the Ensemble Auditions webpage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every effort will be made to have <strong>anonymous auditions<\/strong> where the identity of the performer is unknown to the evaluators.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Auditions will be grouped in schedule blocks by instruments (i.e. all violins will audition in one schedule block).
