We are excited to offer different choruses open to all Butler students through audition: Chorale and Chamber Singers are offered for mixed voices (SATB voice parts) and Spectra for treble voices (SA only). Chorale and Spectra, our larger ensembles, rehearse MWF 12:30-1:50 PM. Chamber Singers, a smaller chamber ensemble, rehearses on Fridays only, 2:00-3:30 PM. Our vocal jazz ensemble, Jordan Jazz, rehearses MW 6:30-8:00 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All students, including returning students, interested in singing in a choral ensemble must complete a brief audition. Auditions will take place on Monday, August 24th from 1:30 to 6:30 pm. (First-year students will be assigned an audition time between 1:30 and 3:30 pm to accommodate their orientation schedule.)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In order to audition, you must submit an audition request form by Friday, August 21st at noon<\/strong>. Please <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/Xx6odDBWqDMCjrK48\">complete the audition request form here<\/a>. You will receive an email once you have been assigned an audition time. Audition time requests will be honored in the order they are received, so if you have specific needs\/availability, sign up as soon as possible! Questions related to signing up for auditions can be directed to Dr. Marsh (<a href=\"mailto:bmarsh1@butler.edu\">bmarsh1@butler.edu<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What to Prepare &amp; Expect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please come prepared to sing approximately 16 measures or roughly 30 seconds of a song. This could be a song you used for a college audition, a song you\u2019ve studied in voice lessons, or simply a song you prepared on your own. (NOTE: Those auditioning for Jordan Jazz must sing an excerpt of a Jazz standard.) We will provide a piano accompanist, so please bring sheet music if that is appropriate for the style of song with which you are auditioning. You may also use an accompaniment track played on your phone or other device. Alternatively, you are welcome to sing a cappella (unaccompanied) or accompany yourself on a chordal instrument (i.e. ukulele or guitar). This aspect of the audition allows us to hear you sing something that you feel best shows off your voice. Based upon the song you choose, we may ask to vocalize you briefly to hear other parts of your range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the prepared song, we will ask each auditioner to sight sing a brief excerpt (4 to 8 measures) from a choral score. The fall semester audition schedule will be included with Orientation information to incoming students and emailed to all incoming and returning students as well as posted on the Ensemble Auditions webpage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every effort will be made to have <strong>anonymous auditions<\/strong> where the identity of the performer is unknown to the evaluators.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Auditions will be grouped in schedule blocks by instruments (i.e. all violins will audition in one schedule block). Logistical and scheduling details may prevent this in some cases, but every effort will be made to keep instruments grouped together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Auditions will be evaluated by studio teachers when possible.<\/strong>&nbsp; These may be grouped by individual instruments (i.e. bassoon students will audition for the bassoon instructor), by groups (i.e. double reed students will audition for the oboe and bassoon instructors), or by area (i.e. woodwind students will audition for the woodwind faculty).&nbsp; Details will be arranged by each area and may depend upon schedules and availability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluators will rank the auditionees based upon their performance in that audition only.
