Students are encouraged to submit applications and accompanying materials by the November 1 Early Action Deadline for prime scholarship consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1: Complete the Common Application indicating a Music major. <\/strong>NOTE: Students considering a Music Major or a Double Major with Music and another area should choose \u201cMusic\u201d as their first major on the Common Application in order to receive the proper supplemental application materials and to be considered for music scholarship. The application will also require the submission of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>High School Transcripts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Transfer students only:<\/em>&nbsp;College Transcripts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Writing Sample<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optional: ACT\/SAT Scores<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2: Complete the Checklist items as required by the School of Music<\/strong>&nbsp;which also includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>JCA Music Supplement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Music Letter of Recommendation from private instructor and\/or ensemble director<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Piano students:<\/em>&nbsp;a letter of recommendation from your private piano instructor is required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Voice students: <\/em>you must pass a pre-screening before being invited for a live audition, see pre-screening requirements in the &#8220;Audition Requirements&#8221; tab. Note a pre-screening is&nbsp;not required for vocal Jazz applicants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 3: Select an Audition Date. <\/strong><em>Voice applicants:<\/em> you will not be able to select an audition date until you submit and pass the pre-screening (see &#8220;Audition Requirements&#8221;). Although we prefer to conduct auditions in person, we recognize that this may not be feasible for everyone. We offer several audition dates so that we can accommodate students&#8217; varying schedules. Note that there are times when there are only very few students auditioning in any given area. The number of auditioning students does not reflect the size of our programs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How do I schedule an audition?<\/strong> To schedule an audition, you must first complete your academic application and JCA Music Checklist items. See the School of Music Application Process above.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>When will I get my audition time? <\/strong>You will receive an audition day itinerary, including your audition time, a few days before your scheduled audition date. In the meantime, you should plan to arrive on campus around 8:30 AM on your scheduled audition date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What if I have another audition scheduled for the same day? <\/strong>We discourage students from double-booking auditions for the same date. Specific audition requirements by instrument area are listed below the Financial Aid section. Be sure to check them before your audition! On your audition day, you can expect the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Instrument\/Voice audition: classical repertoire for all majors except for Jazz Studies. Jazz emphasis applicants will complete both a classical and Jazz audition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A keyboard placement assessment (this is only for placement and not part of your admission decision).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A musicianship placement exercise (only for placement and not part of your admission decision)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional audition day meetings based on your degree:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>For BM in Composition AND Composition emphasis applicants<\/strong>: a 20-minute interview with our Music Composition faculty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For BM in Jazz Studies AND Jazz emphasis applicants<\/strong>: a Jazz audition.
