Tuition Exchange (TE) is a partnership of over 600 colleges and universities offering competitive tuition exchange scholarships to dependents of faculty/staff employed at member institutions. Approximately 6,000 students participate nationally in the TE program annually at the undergraduate level.
Butler University is a member of the Tuition Exchange program and proud to offer this opportunity to the dependents of Butler employees.

Butler also offers a Tuition Remission Program for eligible employees and their spouses and dependents who wish to pursue degree programs at Butler University.
- Dependents of faculty and staff who have been employed full-time for at least nine (9) months at Butler.
- Dependents must meet admission requirements to the colleges they are choosing.
- Approximately one year before your child plans to enroll in college, contact the Butler Benefits Department (askHR@butler.edu) to confirm your eligibility for the program and complete the initial application for participation.
- New Applicants for Tuition Exchange should complete their application for TE at the same time the student is applying for admission, or no later than December 1st of the year preceding academic enrollment.
- Tuition Exchange applications are submitted electronically through The Tuition Exchange website.

- You can submit up to five applications per student.
- Be certain to submit a working email address when submitting the application.
- You will receive an automatic email advising that your application(s) have been submitted.
- The TE Liaison Officer at Butler University will be contacted to verify eligibility of the employee associated with the application. If the employee is not eligible for the TE benefit the application will be denied and you will receive email notification of the denial.
- If the application is approved it will be sent to the host school to which the student is applying.
- The TE Liaison Officer at the host school will notify the family when the application is accepted or rejected. Generally, you will find out before Butler does.
- If you receive an award offer, the notification should contain the scholarship value as well as cost of attendance for the institution.
- You will need to notify Butler's Liaison Officer (Financial Aid) and the Host Liaison Officer promptly, when you accept the scholarship and enroll OR if the student decides to transfer schools or withdraw their application.
No, TE scholarships are not fringe benefits or competitive awards.
Institutions must maintain a balance between import and export students and may, therefore, only accept a certain number of highly qualified students each year.
- TE Scholarships are generally very competitive.
- In addition to meeting the admission requirements of the receiving institution, some member institutions have established additional requirements such as a lottery system, higher entrance standards or a rolling acceptance policy.
- There is no guarantee that a student will receive a Tuition Exchange award simply because the student submitted an application.
- Most scholarships will cover full tuition. However, some schools do cap their awards at the $31,500 amount set by Tuition Exchange.
- Most scholarships are offered for a total of 4 years or 8 semesters, although some schools may offer less than 4 year awards.
- Be sure to know exactly what your scholarship covers before accepting it.
- The Tuition Exchange website has scholarship details for all of the institutions participating in the program, but it is best to reach out to the host institution for more information.
- Students must meet the institution's satisfactory academic progress standards.
- The family member whose employment conveyed eligibility for the scholarship must continue to meet eligibility criteria.
- Reapply for renewal each year during the fall term for the following academic year.
- Renewal applications are submitted online through the Online TE Renewal application. Be sure to submit for renewal by December 15th.
- Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have the results sent to all schools to which you are applying.
- Be sure to contact the Office of Financial Aid at your host school if you wish to receive any aid beyond Tuition Exchange (student loans).

Butler University has no involvement or control over the member colleges or accuracy of data listed on the website. Be sure to confirm all information with the institution of interest.
Schools must remain on the list of participating members because they still have students on their program—schools cannot withdraw completely until all scholarships have been completed, all bills have been paid and they are in balance with the number of imports and exports. Many schools, not just withdrawing schools, decide from year to year not to accept imports or not to send out exports—schools are not required to send out or bring in students under our program.
