Candidates complete a series of task-oriented and interview-based stations designed to evaluate various non-cognitive attributes necessary for success within the Program and\/or discernment to the PA profession. Candidates are evaluated by College of Health Professions faculty, staff, alumni, active preceptors, and\/or community-based PAs.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"butler-accordion-item wp-block-butler-accordion-item\">\n\t<div class=\"butler-accordion-header\">\n\t\t<h2 class=\"butler-accordion-title wp-block-butler-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"butler-accordion-toggle\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\tGoal 2: Provide a quality educational experience that prepares students with entry-level competencies in primary care.\t\t\t\t<span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Open<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"butler-accordion-item-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\n\n<h3 id=\"h-rating-of-curriculum-instruction\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rating of curriculum instruction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each year, students who are about to graduate are asked to rate curricular instruction in various topics as identified in the ARC-PA Standards. According to the PA Exit Survey, the average student rating on the item, \u201cMy level of confidence in my preparation to enter PA practice and provide medical care under the supervision and direction of a physician\u201d was 4.2 (Class of 2024), 4.6 (Class of 2025), and 4.8 (Class of 2026) on a rating scale ranging from 1 = \u201cstrongly disagree\u201d to 5.0 = \u201cstrongly agree.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-summary-of-packrat-performance\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary of PACKRAT performance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In each of the last 4 years (2023-2026), Butler\u2019s didactic year PA classes have met or exceeded the national average on the mock board \u201cPACKRAT\u201d examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-summary-of-student-rotation-evaluations-by-preceptors\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary of student rotation evaluations by preceptors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Preceptor evaluations from the Classes of 2020\u20132024 provide additional evidence that Butler PA students are prepared with entry-level clinical competencies following core clinical rotations. Preceptors evaluated students during Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine rotations, which collectively encompass a wide variety of patient populations, clinical settings, and disease processes relevant to primary care and general medical practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a 1\u20135 rating scale, students received consistently strong average ratings across key clinical competency areas, including History and Physical Examination with an average score of 4.7, Diagnostic Studies with an average score of 4.5, Diagnosis with an average score of 4.6, Clinical Therapeutics with an average score of 4.5, and Clinical Intervention with an average score of 4.5. These results demonstrate that preceptors consistently rate Butler PA students highly in the clinical skills necessary for entry-level practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-summary-of-pance-performance\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary of PANCE performance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past 5 years, Butler University PA graduates have a cumulative first-attempt pass rate on 94%, which exceeds the national average of 92%. Please note that since the Program cannot control when students schedule the PANCE, it is possible that the report shared here does not contain data from all graduates from the most recent cohort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-summary-of-clinical-rotation-requirements\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary of clinical rotation requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our PA students complete core clinical rotations in the following specialties: emergency medicine,&nbsp;family medicine, general surgery,&nbsp;internal medicine, mental health,&nbsp;pediatrics, and women\u2019s health. Each student also has an elective rotation in a medical or surgical specialty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-practice-settings-of-recent-program-graduates\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practice settings of recent program graduates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based upon responses on employment surveys of our three most recently graduated classes, 75% accepted their first PA position in non-surgical practice, and 25% in surgical practice\u201418% of were in primary care, 29% in non-primary care, and 28% in internal medicine. Overall, the 4 most common practice areas of our recent graduates were emergency medicine\/urgent care, family medicine, hospitalist, and orthopedics.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"butler-accordion-item wp-block-butler-accordion-item\">\n\t<div class=\"butler-accordion-header\">\n\t\t<h2 class=\"butler-accordion-title wp-block-butler-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"butler-accordion-toggle\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\tGoal 3: Prepare students to care for a diverse patient population.\t\t\t\t<span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Open<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"butler-accordion-item-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\n\n<h3 id=\"h-ways-in-which-cultural-sensitivity-is-encouraged-during-the-didactic-phase-of-training\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ways in which cultural sensitivity is encouraged during the didactic phase of training<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to 100% of all students passing the Social and Behavioral Medicine course that includes a curriculum focusing, in part, on the spiritual and cultural aspects of the patient, students participate in&nbsp;activities such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Service outreach activities&nbsp;to assist underserved areas of our community<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working with an interpreter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PA For a Day Pediatric Experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Geriatric Patient Interview Experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mental Health First Aid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ovarian Cancer Awareness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Substance Abuse Training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-demographics-of-patients-seen-by-students-on-clinical-rotations\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Demographics of patients seen by students on clinical rotations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The patient populations seen by our students while on clinical rotations are reflective of, and consistent with, the Indiana residents we serve.&nbsp;Our students learn from and evaluate patients of all genders, ages and ethnicities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-ratings-on-exit-surveys-regarding-sensitivity-to-diversity\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ratings on exit surveys regarding sensitivity to diversity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On PA Exit Surveys administered to students one month prior to Program completion, students rated their level of agreement to how well the Program met this goal (which was rephrased in 2025). Graduating students rated the degree to which the Program prepared them \u201cto care for a diverse patient population\u201d as 4.6 (Class of 2025) and 4.8 (Class of 2026). The rating scale for this item ranged from 1 = strongly disagree to 5 = strongly agree.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"butler-accordion-item wp-block-butler-accordion-item\">\n\t<div class=\"butler-accordion-header\">\n\t\t<h2 class=\"butler-accordion-title wp-block-butler-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"butler-accordion-toggle\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\tGoal 4: Foster interprofessional collaborations in clinical practice.\t\t\t\t<span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Open<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"butler-accordion-item-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\n\n<h3 id=\"h-ways-in-which-interprofessional-collaboration-is-encouraged-during-pa-training\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ways in which interprofessional collaboration is encouraged during PA training<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout both the didactic and clinical phases of the program, students are intentionally prepared to function as effective members of interprofessional healthcare teams. Specific opportunities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Participation in a formal interprofessional education course exposing students to the roles and contributions of diverse health professions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Didactic instruction from College of Health Professions pharmacist faculty on clinical medicine topics, modeling collaborative practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborative opportunities with other health professions student organizations on campus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volunteer participation in a community-based, student-run free clinic operated in partnership with medical students and other healthcare professionals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working directly alongside physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals across required and elective rotations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"butler-accordion-item wp-block-butler-accordion-item\">\n\t<div class=\"butler-accordion-header\">\n\t\t<h2 class=\"butler-accordion-title wp-block-butler-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"butler-accordion-toggle\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\tGoal 5: Cultivate an atmosphere of professionalism.\t\t\t\t<span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Open<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t<\/h2>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"butler-accordion-item-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\n\n<h3 id=\"h-how-professionalism-is-evaluated\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How professionalism is evaluated<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professionalism is a required component of every course in the curriculum and is assessed continuously throughout both the didactic and clinical phases. Students are oriented to program expectations at the outset and held to those standards in all interactions \u2014 with peers, faculty, patients, and preceptors alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clinical preceptors rated students\u2019 professionalism at 4.8 out of 5.0 across the past three graduating cohorts. On PA Exit Surveys, students rated program-related professionalism items at an average greater than 4.5 out of 5.0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-how-professionalism-is-cultivated\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How professionalism is cultivated<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students enter the professional phase of the program through a white coat ceremony, joined by family and friends, with coats donated by alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the college.
