Step-By-Step Online Application System Instructions

You've done your research and have settled on a program. Confirm your application instructions below under the Application Instructions By Program Type header. Then, if you're at the stage that you need to apply or create a profile in our online application system (Terra Dotta), please follow the step-by-step Instructions for The CGE's Online Application System below. Application Instructions By Program Type

Semester
  • Faculty-Led Butler Semester in Spain (application typically due on February 1 for the following fall semester) - You will complete an online Butler Semester in Spain application in our online application system.
  • Faculty-Led GALA (application typically due at the beginning of April for the following spring semester) - You will complete an online GALA application in our online application system.
  • ISEP Exchange (internal application deadline of February 8 for the following fall semester and September 8 for the following spring semester) – complete your application through the ISEP website. While you're working on your ISEP application, you must also create an application on the CGE's online application systemIf you're applying to multiple programs, please only apply in the CGE's online application system for your top-choice program (if your program changes, you can contact the CGE to have your application switched into whatever program you're going on). All pre-decision materials must be completed in our online application system by March 15 for the following fall semester and October 15 for the following spring semester. All post-decision materials must be completed in our online application system by April 10 for the following fall semester and November 10 for the following spring semester.
  • Butler University Exchange (application deadline February 15 for the following fall semester and September 15 for the following spring semester) – You will complete an online Butler University Exchange application in our online application system.
  • 3rd Party Provider Programs (i.e. IFSA-Butler, IES Abroad, Spanish Studies Abroad, etc. Application deadlines vary, so please refer to specific providers and programs for their deadlines.) – complete your application through the provider by their deadline. While you're working on your provider application, you must also create an application on the CGE's online application systemIf you're applying to multiple programs, please only apply in the CGE's online application system for your top-choice program (if your program changes, you can contact the CGE to have your application switched into whatever program you're going on). All pre-decision materials must be completed in our online application system by March 15 for the following fall semester and October 15 for the following spring semester. Summer

  • Faculty-Led Summer Programs (application deadlines vary, so please refer to specific programs) - You will complete an online, program-specific application in our online application system.
  • 3rd Party Provider Summer Program (i.e. IFSA-Butler, IES Abroad, Spanish Studies Abroad, etc. Application deadlines vary, so please refer to specific providers and programs for their deadlines.) – complete your application through the provider by their deadline. While you're working on your provider application, you must also start an application for the 3rd Party Provider Summer ProgramIf you're applying to multiple programs, please list your top-choice program in the Non-List Program Questionnaire. (If your program changes, contact the CGE). All pre-decision materials must be completed in our online application system by March 15. All post-decision materials must be completed in our online application system by April 10.

**All secondary "applications" (for ISEP and our 3rd Party Provider partners) have two deadlines per semester.**

Instructions for The CGE’s Online Application System

  1. Go to global-education.butler.edu. Click on the Programs tab to find the program to which you want to apply.

  2. Choose how you would like to search:

    1. Simple Search: If you are looking for a program based on location, term, city, country, and/or region, then select your search criteria on the first page and click "Search."
    2. Advanced Search: If you are looking for a program based on area of study, type of program (3rd Party Provider, Exchange, or Faculty-Led), language learning opportunities, language pre-requisites, etc., click the "Advanced Search" tab at the top of the page select your search criteria and click "Search."

  3. Find the program to which you want to apply. On that program's brochure page, click Apply Now.

    BU Exchange and Faculty-Led programs have updated brochure pages with the Apply Now button under the Overview section:

  4. If prompted, click OK to start an application.

  5. Click I have a my.Butler username and password, then Submit.

  6. Input your Butler username (just the username, do not use @butler.edu) and password. Click Login.

  7. Select the term to which you are applying, and then click Apply. Please note: applications will be available approximately one semester in advance. If you do not see the term you're interested in applying for, please wait until it becomes available.

  8. Now, you're in your application! (Woo!) The first thing you'll see is the left application panel.
    1. The three lines (hamburger navigation menu) expands to show a comprehensive list of application options.
    2. The application's important dates (deadline, start date, and end date).
    3. A link to the program brochure (View program).
    4. A profile image (which can be edited from this screen).

  9. After that, you'll see the top application panel.
    1. The Requirements tab is essentially the main page of the application. The red number indicates how many application components you have to complete.
    2. The Instructions appear at the top of the application. To get started, read these and click the Get Started button.

  10. Work your way through the following application components:
    1. Signature documents (read and e-sign)
    2. Questionnaires (fill-in-the-blank items)
    3. Material submissions (things that must be submitted and the CGE will mark as received)
    4. Recommendations - **The CGE HIGHLY recommends contacting your recommender(s) in-person or via email before submitting a recommendation request through the online application system. Once you have done that, you can send over the recommendation request using the previous instructions.**
  11. Once you have completed all of the components of your application (including any material submissions), your progress meter will be full; at this point, you can click the Submit your application button.

  12. You can exit out and finish your application at a later date. To re-login, click Login in the upper right-hand corner of any page.

  13. When you re-log in, you'll start out on your Applicant Homepage. Scroll down to see your applications. IF YOU ARE APPLYING TO A BUTLER EXCHANGE, this area on your applicant homepage is also where you can RANK your program options (we recommend creating an application for at least two Butler Exchanges and ranking them so the Associate Director for Study Abroad can place you). You rank your program options by clicking the Update ranking button and using the arrows to move your applications into your preferred rank. This does not apply to students applying for any program other than the Butler Exchanges.
