Study Abroad Online Application System FAQ

Why can't I sign off on my application's Signature Documents?

In order to legally sign off on documents, you have to be over 18. In order for the system to know that you are of legal age, you have to input your birthday into your profile.

On your Applicant Home Page, click Edit Profile.

In addition to adding your Date of Birth to your profile, we are also requiring that you add your Gender (as listed on your passport) and an ID Photo. If you would like, you can also add in a short bio and your cell phone number.

Why can't I select multiple answers on the Study Abroad General Application on my Mac?

This question has been asked, in particular, about the With whom have you discussed your study abroad plans? question on the Study Abroad General Application. We have had a student successfully select multiple options by holding down the Command key when making their selections.


Another issue we have encountered is that, while students are able to select multiple options from the With whom have you discussed your study abroad plans? list, the top option, Assoc. Director for Exchanges: Sarah O'Neall, can be selected, but isn't being saved. 


If you have any of these issues, please go to the IT Help Desk to have them resolve this with you. We are finding that there are issues with some Macs, but not others, and it could be related to when your computer was released. If you don't want to go to the Help Desk, we recommend logging into your application on one of the Butler computers or on a friend's computer to see if that makes a difference. 

Why can't I submit my application?

If your application has a recommendation requirement, then all recommendations you send out must be completed before you're allowed to submit your application. If you sent out multiple recommendations and only some have been completed or if someone you requested a recommendation from said they would not/could not complete a recommendation for you, you can contact the CGE during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM) to have the CGE delete any extra recommendations.

Why can't I log into the online application system?

There could be a few reasons!

  1. Make sure you are using your Butler username (no and password. If you are trying to log in with your Butler email (using, then this is incorrect.
  2. If you have not yet started an application in the online application system, then you may get a red error message when you try to log in. This red error message explains that if you are a first time user of this site, you have to click the link which describes the type of user that you are (Applicant, Recommender, Reviewer, or Staff).
