Family Weekend is November 8–10, 2019!

Join us for Family Weekend 2019! You won't want to miss the perfect weekend to visit your Butler student! Events, activities, and open houses have been planned throughout the weekend for you to experience Butler and to learn more about your student's life on campus.

Important Travel Information:

Do you need help navigating around the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon route? Try using this google map.  Input your point of origin (i.e. your home address, the address of your hotel, etc.). The map is set up to route you to the intersection of Kessler Road and Illinois St into the Butler Campus. Please note that google maps will not have the monumental marathon route in the map so you will need to ensure that Google maps routes you to enter Kessler Rd and Illinois St. from the West. The Monumental Marathon will occupy many streets around campus.

Parking

Families are welcome to park in the Sunset Avenue Parking Garage. Normal rates apply, and event parking rates will be in effect during the football game and men's basketball game. Parking at Hinkle Fieldhouse will be restricted prior to the football game and the men's basketball game. Parking will only be available to those families purchasing tailgate parking passes prior to the football game, and it is open only to basketball season pass holders prior to the men's basketball game. Football tailgate parking passes are still available through the Athletic Ticket Office at 317-940-3647. More information can be found below in the Ticketing and Athletic Events section.

Ticketing and Athletic Events

Tickets and Pre-ordered Items

Most events included in registration do not require a physical ticket. Pre-ordered Family Weekend t-shirts, brunch tickets, and Build-a-Bulldog tickets will be available for pick-up at the Family Weekend information table on Friday evening and Saturday morning at the times and location listed on the Family Weekend schedule. Your Butler student may pick up these items. 

Athletic Events

To gain access to discounted Football and Women's Basketball tickets, please complete the Family Weekend registration form. You will receive a promotional code and link after submitting your registration to access these discounted and reserved tickets. Tickets to the Men's Basketball game are currently sold out. If you would still like to watch the Men's Basketball game, we would like to invite you to attend Hoops and Hospitality, a viewing party of the game, in the Fairview Community Room at 7:00 PM.  

Women's Basketball vs. Wagner

Families are offered discounted ticket rates as a part of Family Weekend. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. Tickets can be purchased using the promotional code and link provide after submitting the Family Weekend Registration Form.

Football vs. Davidson

Families are offered discounted ticket rates as a part of Family Weekend. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for youth. Tickets can be purchased using the promotional code and link provide after submitting the Family Weekend Registration Form.

Men's Basketball vs. New Orleans

Experience Butler basketball at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tickets to the Men's Basketball Game are currently sold out. If you would still like to watch the game, we would like to invite you to attend Hoops and Hospitality, a viewing party of the game, in the Fairview Community Room at 7:00 PM. Additional questions regarding Men's Basketball tickets can be directed to the athletic ticket office at 317-940-3647. (Note: Butler students who gain entrance to the game via student tickets will be seated in the student section. Family members wanting their Butler student seated with them in the stands will need to purchase a game ticket for their student.) Please note that fans that may require ADA seating for basketball must contact the ticket office directly at 317-940-3647 instead of ordering through the Family Weekend registration site.

All tickets ordered online will be sent via electronic delivery after they are purchased. Tickets must be printed in advance or have them on your mobile device before arriving to the venue. Tickets will not be available for pick-up at Will Call for any of the games. If you have questions, you may contact the Athletic Ticket Office at tickets@butler.edu or 317-940-3647. Once your ticket is scanned for either game, pass-outs will not be allowed. Fans attending the men’s basketball game should allow extra time at arrival for the walk-through metal detectors as you enter Hinkle Fieldhouse. Additional information for the 2019-2020 season can be found on the fan guidebag policy, and tailgating websites.

Tailgate Parking Passes

Tailgate parking passes for Family weekend are $25. Families wishing to reserve RV parking will need to call or email the ticket office directly to reserve an RV Parking pass. Limited quantities of RV parking passes are available and are $150. For tailgate parking passes and RV parking passes, contact the Athletic ticket office at tickets@butler.edu or 317-940-3647. Parking passes must be displayed in your vehicle before you will be allowed to enter the Hinkle lot on Saturday morning. All vehicles will need to be moved from the Hinkle Parking lot by 4:30 PM in order for the Police Department to prepare for the Men's Basketball Game. Cars are not permitted to remain in the lot throughout the Men's Basketball Game.

Butler Arts Center and Butler Theatre Performances

Tickets to the CeCe Winans and Patton Oswald performances, presented by the Butler Arts Center, as well as Butler Theatre's performance of The Mineola Twins can be found online at the Butler Arts Center website.

Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium Show with Telescope Viewing

Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children and students under 18. Butler students are free with ID. No reservations required and tickets can be purchased at the door.

Important Travel Information

Important Travel Details

Please note that the Monumental Marathon will take place on Saturday, November 9, in Indianapolis. Please review the information below when planning your route to campus. Road closures due to the marathon will make travel to campus difficult between 8:30 AM and 1:00 PM. Families are strongly encouraged to arrive on campus before 8:30 AM that day. Families arriving on campus prior to noon on Saturday are advised to travel from the north (see below). See the Monumental Marathon course map for more information or view the full list of closures.

If you are staying overnight in Indy, it is also recommended that you choose a hotel on the Northwest side of Indianapolis to avoid marathon road closures.

From the Northwest (BEST ROUTE during peak run time)

From 86th Street, take Michigan Road south to Kessler Boulevard. Proceed east on Kessler to N. Illinois Street. Proceed south on Illinois Street to 52nd Street (or take Westfield Boulevard) to Boulevard Place. Proceed south on Boulevard Place into campus arriving near Hinkle Fieldhouse.

From the Northeast

From 86th Street, take Sprng Mill Road south to Kessler Boulevard. Proceed east on Kessler to N. Illinois Street. Proceed south on Illinois Street to 52nd Street (or take Westfield Boulevard) to Boulevard Place. Proceed south on Boulevard Place into campus arriving near Hinkle Fieldhouse.

From the West

Take West 38th Street. Proceed to Clarendon Road. Proceed north on Clarendon Road to Hampton Drive, but expect major delays near Hampton and Clarendon during the peak run time.

From the East and South

There is no good way to approach from the East and South, as the race route crosses these streets and will box traffic inside.

Tony award-winner, Paula Vogel’s The Mineola Twins—a comedy in six scenes, four dreams and (at least) six wigs—is an allegory of identical ‘good and bad’ twins Myrna and Myra, whose Culture Wars skirmishes span the Eisenhower, Nixon and Reagan/Bush years. The best-selling and most-awarded female gospel artist of all time, CeCe Winans has long since cemented her status as one of the most accomplished and celebrated women in modern music history. It’d be easy to look back and rest on such illustrious laurels, but Winans has always had her eyes fixed firmly on the future, so it should come as little surprise that she jumped at the opportunity when her son, Alvin Love III, proposed she record the generation-bridging new album ‘Let Them Fall In Love.’ Her first in nearly a decade, the record finds Winans returning to the studio with gusto, working for roughly three years to craft her most confident, adventurous collection. Opening performer is Scott Mulvahill. Tickets are available at ButlerArtsCenter.org or in person at the Clowes Memorial Hall box office.

Be part of the traditional tailgating atmosphere by setting up your own tailgate in the Hinkle lot. Single car parking passes will be available through Family Weekend registration for $25. Limited availability. First come, first served. Vehicles will need to be moved from the Hinkle lot at the conclusion of the football game (at 4:30 PM) in preparation for the men’s basketball game that evening. Please note the complete tailgating policy listed on the Butler Athletics website.

Build-a-Bulldog!
Fairview House Community Room

Butler students and their younger family members are invited for two hours of fun! During this time, each child will get a chance to create their own stuffable bulldog and enjoy cookies and coloring with their new friend! Each younger family member will create a bulldog, and Butler students will assist them. Refreshments will be provided. Cost is $15 per sibling and space is limited. Registration for Build-a Bulldog must be submitted by Thursday, October 24th.

This multi-level class guides participants through sequences of standing and seated postures to promote physical strength, flexibility, and peace of mind. Whether you are new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, this class creates an environment where participants explore their own bodies and physical limitations free from judgement and chatter of everyday life. Space is limited.

*The HRC staff recommends arriving 10 minutes early to all classes in order to secure a spot. You may bring your own yoga mat, but yoga mats will be supplied in the Wet Room. The HRC encourages each participant to bring a water bottle and wear athletic apparel. There are cubbies in the Wet Room to store belongings during class and locker room services are available if you wish to rent a locker.

Women interested in Panhellenic Recruitment are invited to visit with each sorority and learn more about Fraternity and Sorority Life at Butler. Families are encouraged to attend. This is an open house where families can come and go as they please. Each organization will have members available to provide information and answer any questions that families may have.

Calm the mind and body with this soothing, restorative yoga and guided mindfulness meditation. You will leave feeling nourished, well rested, and refreshed with a new cultivated awareness and clarity. No yoga or meditation experience is needed, all levels are welcome. Space is limited.

A comedian, actor, and writer, Patton Oswalt continues to find success in all areas of entertainment From his award- winning comedy specials to his many memorable film roles and guest appearances on his favorite TV shows (including Parks and Recreation, for which he received a TV Critics Choice Award), Oswalt continues to choose work that inspires him and entertains audiences. Family Weekend T-Shirts

Pre-ordered Family Weekend t-shirts will be available for pick-up at the Family Weekend information table on Friday evening and Saturday morning at the times and location listed on the Family Weekend schedule. Your Butler student may pick up these items. Check out the Family Weekend 2019 t-shirt design below!

Adult t-shirts are $12 each and youth size t-shirts are $9 each. Family Weekend t-shirts can be purchased through the Family Weekend regisration form.
