As a Chemistry and Spanish double major, she shared that even though her classes were sometimes a struggle, they taught her the necessary skills she\u2019ll need for a future career or graduate school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SDS played a major role in Brieanna\u2019s success at Butler. \u201cSDS was such a big help in my time as a Butler student. I really utilized as many of my accommodations as I possibly could, and I went from struggling to hold on academically to being able to flourish,\u201d she said. She also appreciated the sense of community SDS offered, noting that it was \u201cwelcoming to everyone regardless of what disability they had. 10\/10 experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Looking ahead, Brieanna is taking a gap year, with the goal of going to medical school. He shared, \u201cButler taught me essential life skills that I use every day in my post-grad life. From a young age, I was told that networking is key to success, and my time at Butler proved just how true that advice is. Through countless interactions and opportunities, I learned the value of building genuine connections, which ultimately helped me land a job right out of college.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Nathan\u2019s time at Butler also shaped his personal values and habits. \u201cButler taught me the importance of being authentic. There\u2019s no need to try to be someone you&#8217;re not; everyone has their own unique story for a reason. Having the chance to connect with others and learn what makes them who they are is an incredibly rewarding experience,\u201d Nathan reflected. He also credited Butler with helping him refine organization and time management skills, which he relies on in post-grad life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">SDS was another major factor in Nathan\u2019s success. \u201cFrom the moment I arrived on campus, they ensured I had what I needed to succeed both academically and personally. They provided a comfortable living situation my freshman year, helpful accommodations in the classroom, and access to resources whenever I needed extra support. She shared, \u201cBeing a slow test-taker, it can be discouraging and nerve-racking when you see a whole room of students finish an exam much sooner than you. With SDS, I was able to complete exams feeling much more relaxed and confident in my answers since I did not need to rush.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jennah used the industry opportunities she had at Butler to find what career path worked best for her. She is joining Milliman as a junior account executive working for their Pharma team. The accommodations provided by SDS made it possible for me to receive such an incredible undergraduate education. As a member of SDS\u2019s academic honor society for people with disabilities, Delta Alpha Pi (DAP), Lindsay \u201clearned so much about the experience of disability, was able to share  own experiences with others, and really began to grow into  role as a disability advocate for acceptance.\u201d This experience even inspired her senior thesis! Despite the challenging aspects of Butler, there was an immense amount of support. My professors reminded me that I was capable and more than just a letter grade. My mentors taught me that I could do anything I put my mind to and my friends picked me up when I was down while encouraging me to push forward. Butler gave me strength and confidence that I will take with me wherever I go next.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, Molly was nervous about how to approach professors other university departments about the support she would need as a result of her diagnosis. Working with SDS helped to make these communications easier.&nbsp;\u201cThe letters SDS sends to our professors with our accommodations meant more to me than I can express and allowed for a more open environment.\u201d&nbsp;Like many SDS students, Molly only needed to utilize the office occasionally, but she says \u201cit was so helpful to know that the services and kind people were there for me if I ever did need it. SDS sort of felt like my guardian angel during college that I knew was there for me if I needed extra help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After graduating from Butler in spring 2020, Molly will next be receiving a master&#8217;s in Biomedical Sciences at Marian University in the 2020-2021 academic year.
