Compass Center<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The Compass Center offers internships in faith-based, social justice and nonprofit organizations both within The Compass Center and in the greater Indianapolis area. These are opportunities to explore and discover work that is meaningful to you both personally and professionally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ideal internship candidates are juniors and seniors. As part of the internship, The Compass Center will provide opportunities for exploring meaning and purpose through cohort conversations, using the internship as an opportunity to reflect on the intern\u2019s future direction and decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Internships qualify for Indianapolis Community Requirement (ICR). Students will broaden their religious literacy while\u202fstrengthening their skills in non-profit administration and program development\u202fby attending\u202fstaff, board, and executive committee meetings, and by\u202fhelping to plan, promote,\u202fand facilitate meetings, programs, and community events. Students will identify specific goals to learn about non-profit administration, program development, or interfaith research. Throughout the experience, interns will develop a portfolio reflecting on their goals detailing key learnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An ideal candidate will be able to take initiative while receiving support. They will bring a commitment to fostering interfaith understanding, respect for diversity, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Some experience in event planning and communication would be helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Internship Specifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interns are expected to work 10\u201312 hours a week during the spring semester.\u202f Interns are paid $14 per hour.\u202fThe Intern will keep a weekly journal and meet regularly with the program director during the course of the internship. Dr. Sarah Lund, Senior Pastor of historic First Congregational United Church of Christ (UCC) and assist the congregation in living out its commitment to be Just Peace church, fulfilling the principles of racial justice, mental health justice, economic justice, food justice, environmental justice and LGBTQ justice. The Just Peace Intern will work in partnership with the Pastor, staff, congregation leaders, and community partners such as Faith In Indiana to engage in peacemaking and justice work. This internship will take place at First Congregational UCC located at 7171 N. The intern will assist the Clinic\u2019s leadership with a variety of projects related to the five program areas to include Housing and Consumer Justice, Immigrant and Survivor Justice, Tax and Economic Justice, Re-entry Justice, and Veterans\u2019 Services. The intern will have opportunities to assist in program level legal operations projects in furtherance of our legal service plan objectives as well as direct legal services experiences and paralegal work assignments, such as subject matter research and client\/community communications.&nbsp;Additionally, the intern may be involved in daily non-profit operations and there are opportunities to participate in business discussions including development work. The internship will take place at the Clinic\u2019s main office, located at the Trinity Outreach Center, at 3333 N Meridian Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of this program is to introduce the intern to the inner workings of the poverty law sector as well as that of a faith-based nonprofit, providing an understanding of the Clinic\u2019s prophetic call to \u201cSeek justice, defend the oppressed.
