For Faculty & Staff
SDS Goals for Faculty
In an effort to promote Faculty awareness of disability-related issues and appropriate student support, Student Disability Services periodically posts links to pertinent videos, articles, stories, and general information pages.
We hope to grow this page to serve as a resource library for faculty and staff. So if you have or know of any information, sites or other resources concerning disability in higher education that you feel should be shared with other Faculty, please contact Debbie Jones by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Student Disability Services is available to provide individualized assistance, support, and consultation to faculty in their work with students with disabilities. Should you encounter a student whose request for an accommodation seems unreasonable or if you desire additional information, please contact our office. The Office of Student Disability Services serves students only. Students identify themselves to the Office of Student Disability Services and request assistance in making academic adjustments to ensure an equitable opportunity in the academic setting while at Butler University. While office staff sometimes need to serve as advocates for students with disabilities, students are encouraged and empowered to become advocates for themselves. The staff will also assist faculty and other members of the University community in becoming familiar with the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities act.
Specific services provided vary with the nature of the student's disability, but may include: extended time on examinations, note takers, readers, relocation of classrooms to an accessible site, alternative testing arrangements.
