Some accommodation letters will include an attendance accommodation. The degree to which a student may be absent usually requires discussion on a case-by-case basis for each class, depending on the student's individual disability, the nature of the course, and the degree to which class attendance is an essential requirement of the specific course. If you have concerns about an SDS student’s attendance, please contact SDS for an individualized discussion.
As most students with this accommodation have a chronic condition, it is not typically necessary or appropriate for them to visit a clinician or receive a doctor’s note to substantiate each absence. Please see Disability-Related Attendance Issues for additional information on attendance accommodations and policies.
