Nancy Whitmore



Dr. Nancy Whitmore is a professor of journalism in the Eugene S. Pulliam School of Journalism and Creative Media at Butler University. Her scholarly work concentrates largely on First Amendment theory and free speech issues involving economic expression. Her most recent article, published in the Elon Law Review, explores how the Roberts Court is reshaping First Amendment rights. She is currently working on an upcoming communications law textbook, titled Creative Expression and the Law, which is scheduled to be published by Rowman & Littlefield.

Dr. Whitmore has extensive teaching experience in media law, but has taught a variety of courses in both journalism and public relations since coming to Butler in 2001. During her tenure at Butler, she also served as director of the School of Journalism from 2008 to 2016. Dr. Whitmore received her Ph.D. in mass media from Michigan State University and her M.A. in communications and B.S. in journalism from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
