White Coat and Hooding Ceremonies

White Coat Ceremony

On August 30, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences hosted its 19th Annual White Coat Ceremony.  This year, the College welcomed 75 PA students and 110 P1 Pharmacy students in the first year of their professional programs and into their respective professional communities.

Speakers for the White Coat Ceremony included Kyler Benbow, a 2013 graduate of Butler's Master of Physician Assistant Program and a 2012 graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, and a PA at OrthoIndy.   Greg Fox, Pharmacy Department Merchandiser for the Central Division of Kroger, welcomed the students into their respective professional journeys.  Kroger was the sponsor of the White Coat Ceremony.

Dr. Jennifer Snyder, Chair of the Deparment of Medical Sciences at Butler, read the Oath of a PA to the PA class.  Dr. Bonnie Brown, Associate Dean at Butler, recited the Oath of a Pharmacy to the P1 Class.

The White Coat Ceremony carries the symbolism of past accomplishments, entry into the professional program, and support from the faculty and families.  Since 2000, over 3,000 Butler Pharmacy and PA students have received their first white coats through donations from parents, alumni, faculty, staff, professional partners, and freiends of the college.

Congratulations to the PA Class of 2021 and the Pharmacy Class of 2023.

The College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences will host our White Coat Ceremony for the PA Class of 2022 and the Pharmacy Class of 2024 on Friday, August 28, 2020.

Hooding Ceremony

COVID-19 Update

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Butler's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will be unable to host our originally scheduled live Hooding Ceremony on May 8, 2020. We have scheduled a virtual Hooding Ceremony for our Class of 2020 graduates on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 2:00 PM (EST). This event will be live streamed for family and friends. Details and instructions have been shared with students. The ceremony will include many celebratory and important activities as students prepare to go out into practice. If you have any questions, please contact Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Angela Ockerman (aockerma@butler.edu).

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is pleased that, despite the current pandemic, Butler University has scheduled Commencement for all May, August, and December 2020 graduates on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 6:30 PM (EST) in Hinkle Fieldhouse. We encourage you to review the rescheduled commencement announcment from the Provost posted on April 16, 2020. The College will recognize our graduates who are able to attend in December with a special ceremony the afternoon prior to Commencement including the honoring of our graduates receiving Masters and higher degrees with their academic hoods. More details will be shared with our graduates as the event approaches.
