Accessibility Services—Winter Commencement

We are pleased to provide family members and guests, who have accessibility needs, a reserved seating area. Students must indicate this information on the Commencement registration form for accessibility seating to be issued.  There are three different types of accessibility seating:

  • Wheelchair Accessible—Reserved seating for individuals in a wheelchair. (May request 1 companion seat.)
  • Accessible Seating—Reserved seating for individuals with limited mobility. (May request 1 companion seat.)
  • Companion—(for Wheelchair Accessible or Accessible Seating)—Individuals in need of a Wheelchair Accessible or Accessible Seating ticket may have 1 companion seated with them in the reserved seating area.

Be as accurate as possible in ticket selection, especially concerning accessibility (wheelchair accessible, accessible, and companion) seating. Please note that children who will require their own seat at any point in the ceremony and are not seated on someone's lap will need to be included in registration.

Parking passes for those with mobility impairments should be requested on the Commencement registration form as well. If you need accessible seating accommodations, it is important you provide early notification of these needs due to limited seating.

To request disability-related accommodations or inquire about accessibility, please contact Meg Haggerty, Director of New Student & Family Programs. Please allow two weeks' advance notice in order to allow adequate time to make arrangements. Although attempts will be made to honor accommodation requests with less notice, it cannot be guaranteed that without two weeks' notice a reasonable accommodation can be provided.

Your state-issued disability placard or a Butler University issued accessible parking permit are required for special parking considerations. Butler University issued permits must be requested on the Commencement registration form. Any vehicle may use the Clowes Memorial Hall circle to drop-off guests who are not able to walk long distances. Accessible parking is available in the Clowes and Schrott production lot just east of the building.  All other parking is available in the Sunset Ave. Parking Garage.

Wheelchair Accessibility

Wheelchair access is available throughout the floor seating in Clowes Memorial Hall by entering Doors 3 and 4. Ushers will refer guests to the wheelchair accessible seating areas. Please indicate a need for wheelchair seating on the Commencement registration form

Auditory Assistance

Accommodations for those who are hearing impaired will be provided in the form of an American Sign Language interpreter. Please inform if you have anyone in your party that needs to be seated within close proximity to the interpreter. We can provide reserved seating for this individual and a companion. Phonic Ear Sound Enhancement is also available to amplify stage dialogue. Guests may pick up their individual receiver at the Clowes Information Desk located in the lobby. A photo ID or credit card will be held while receiver is in use. 24 receivers will be available on a first come, first served basis. Guests may be seated anywhere in Clowes to use the phonic ear sound enhancement receivers.
