Explore Indy Religion

This website is a directory of minority religious institutions in and around the city of Indianapolis, Indiana. It was created in 2007 by students in Dr. Chad Bauman's course, "Religions of the World," which is offered every semester at Butler University. The students concentrated on institutions associated with lesser-known religions, and so while there is information on the site about Baha'i, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Paganism, Sikhism, and Wicca, there is nothing on Christianity or Judaism. Some of the information is now a bit out of date, and that is particularly true for groups, like the Pagans and Wiccans, who rarely own the buildings in which they meet, and whose communities regularly come in and out of being, splinter and re-emerge in different form. There is an added challenge in the case of Wicca, which is that a significant number of Wiccans are solitary practitioners who do not advertise their rituals widely, and who in many cases would prefer not to receive visitors. Nevertheless, the site provides information on a significant number of minority religious institutions in Indianapolis. Whether you're curious about the range of religions in Indianapolis, want to get to know your neighbors better, or are looking for a place to worship, we hope you find the site useful and interesting.
