Biology Alumni Spotlight and Careers

With their Biology degrees, our students have had great success in their post-graduate lives following their time in Gallahue Hall. Butler Biology alumni can be found throughout the country, employed at government agencies (such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the United States Department of Agriculture), major pharmaceutical companies (such as Eli Lilly and Pfizer), and nationally ranked hospitals (such as the Mayo Clinic, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, ranked as the No. 1 Best Hospital and the Top 2 Best Children’s Hospital in the country, respectively, by US News and Rankings). But success is not defined by a national ranking; our alumni enjoy fulfilling careers in many different fields all over the world.

Butler Biology majors after graduation: 57% graduate/professional school, 26% employed, 12% gap year, 5% seeking employment or additional schooling

Professional or Graduate School and Careers

More than half of Biology majors will undergo additional schooling before employment. When Butler Biology majors do enter the workforce, either immediately following graduation or after additional schooling, they can be found in many different areas of employment. Below are some of the post-graduate schools Butler Biology alumni have attended as well as a small sample of some of the careers our alumni are employed (specific company/organization names and employment titles are withheld for confidentiality). This list is an accumulation of self-reporting (from 2015–2017 survey of graduates) and anecdotal submissions from Butler faculty.
