Athletics at Butler

Whether you’re cheering in the stands of a Bulldogs football game, or catching a pick-up game of flag football with friends, athletics are a huge part of campus life here at Butler. In fact, all but one of the 18 intercollegiate teams compete in the Big East conference.

But you don’t have to get to the NCAA Final Four to be a part of the athletic community. From team involvement to joining up with one of the many intramural or club sports, there are plenty of opportunities to stay involved with athletics at Butler.

The Bulldogs have carried on the winning traditions set forth by Tony Hinkle, famed teacher, coach, and athletic administrator at Butler. In the past decade, Butler's men's & women's teams have captured 29 conference championships and have made appearances in NCAA National Championship Tournaments in 8 sports. Health & Recreation Complex

In addition to being the main stomping ground for Butler’s Department of Recreation and intramural and club sports, the HRC also houses Counseling and Consultation ServicesHealth Education, and Health Services. Approximately 1,000 students come through the HRC’s doors daily.

Butler’s offers 20 intercollegiate teams in addition to 16 club teams and a host of intramural options. From basketball to Euchre, there’s something for everyone.

 

 

Hinkle Fieldhouse

Hinkle Fieldhouse—“Indiana’s Basketball Cathedral”—has reigned as one of the nation's great sports arenas for more than eight decades. The classic facility was constructed in 1928 and was the nation's largest basketball arena at that time. Today, Hinkle is home to Butler's men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball teams.

University Bands and Spirit Programs are the Spirit Center of campus. Have what it takes to perform as a mascot or cheerleader, or to join the Dance Team, Marching and/or Basketball Bands? You’ve got spirit, yes you do!

Bulldog Club

Join the over 3,600 Bulldog Club members who support Butler Athletics. Donations provide Butler student-athletes with uniforms, up-to-date training facilities and equipment, team travel, the finest coaches, academic support programs, and other essential components to support all of Butler’s Division I teams.

Hall of Fame

The Butler Athletic Hall of Fame was started by Butler University and the Butler B-Association to recognize and honor those individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and prestige of Butler in the field of athletics, and who have continued to demonstrate in their lives the values imparted by athletics.
