Delbrook Visiting Writers Series has regularly hosted public readings and Q&amp;A sessions with some of the most influential people in contemporary literature. Visiting authors such as Toni Morrison, Billy Collins, Kurt Vonnegut, Gwendolyn Brooks, Margaret Atwood, Allen Ginsberg, Sharon Olds, Amy Tan, and Colson Whitehead not only share their work with the Indianapolis community but also interact directly with undergraduate and graduate students in Butler&#8217;s English classes and MFA program. Jemisin<\/strong> is the first author in the genre\u2019s history to win three consecutive Best Novel Hugo Awards, all for her <em>Broken Earth<\/em> trilogy. Her work has also won the Nebula, Locus, and Goodreads Choice awards. Most of her works have been optioned for television or film, and collectively her novels, including the <em>Broken Earth <\/em>trilogy, have sold over two million copies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After 20 years working in higher education as an applied counseling psychologist, she \u201cretired\u201d in 2016 to become a full-time writer, writing instructor, and public speaker. He is the author of 12 books of poetry, including <em>Into the Hush<\/em> (2025) and <em>The White Orchard: Selected Interviews, Essays, and Poems<\/em> (2025); <em>The Glass Constellation: New and Collected Poems<\/em> (2021); <em>Sight Lines<\/em> (2019), for which he won the National Book Award; <em>Compass Rose<\/em> (2014); <em>The Ginkgo Light<\/em> (2009); <em>Quipu<\/em> (2005); <em>The Redshifting Web: Poems 1970\u20131998<\/em> (1998); and <em>Archipelago<\/em> (1995). She is known for her fearless voice and singular style that have reshaped the literary landscape.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lockwood is the author of the novel <em>No One is Talking About This<\/em>, a finalist for the Booker Prize and one of <em>The New York Times <\/em>Book Review\u2019s 10 Best Books of 2021. <em>The Atlantic<\/em> hailed the book as one of the Great American Novels of the past 100 years. Her unforgettable memoir <em>Priestdaddy<\/em>, which recounts her unconventional upbringing as the daughter of a Catholic priest won the Thurber Prize\u2014America\u2019s top honor for humor writing\u2014and was named one of the 10 Best Books of 2017 by <em>The New York Times <\/em>Book Review.
