He serves as the Chief Science Officer of the Mind Science Foundation, an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University, Head of Science Communication at ResearchHub, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Buffalo. He is the author of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/761227\/why-brains-need-friends-by-ben-rein-phd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Why Brains Need Friends: The Neuroscience of Social Connection<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rein also shares educational neuroscience videos on social media to an audience of more than 1.2 million followers, and has been featured on <em>Entertainment Tonight<\/em>, <em>Good Morning America<\/em>, and 100+ podcasts including <em>StarTalk<\/em> with Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Barstool Sports. Laviska was Assistant Professor at Seton Hall University where he was co-director of the Academy for Green Chemistry, Stewardship, and Sustainability. As a pedagogical innovator, he led the effort to incorporate the principles of Green Chemistry throughout the Organic and General Chemistry curricula and was awarded \u201cProfessor of the Year\u201d in 2020. As a first-generation college student and member of the LGBTQIA+ community, he took leading roles in working with undergraduate STEM students from across the spectrum of underrepresented groups. His research focused on green(er) synthesis and characterization of late transition metal complexes with unique optical properties and hetero- and homogeneous catalysis. His research students also developed and piloted green(er) experimental protocols for use in undergraduate teaching labs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to his second career in academia, Laviska worked for more than a decade as an Environmental\/Analytical Specialist with the EPA. She has been working to identify the dark matter and dark energy that permeate the universe as well as to build a successful model for the early universe immediately after the Big Bang.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Freese has been very active in public outreach, including TV, radio, and public lectures and panels.\u00a0She is the author of a book,\u00a0<em>The Cosmic<\/em>\u00a0<em>Cocktail: Three Parts Dark Matter<\/em>. He is the sole recipient of the 2017 Communications Award from Joint Policy Board for Mathematics. She leads the NASA Exoplanet Archive, and has worked on the NASA Kepler, K2, and now TESS missions to characterize the demographics of exoplanets, and to find\u00a0and study the nearest planetary systems to Earth\u2014systems that will be perfect for further\u00a0study\u00a0with NASA\u2019s next flagship mission, the Habitable Worlds Observatory. He has held senior academic roles, including tenured professorships, where he founded the world\u2019s first PhD program in Green Chemistry.
