It focuses on developing safe, efficient, and sustainable methods for producing fuels, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, and advanced materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chemical engineers work on scaling laboratory discoveries into large-scale production, designing equipment and processes for chemical reactions, separations, and material handling. The field also emphasizes sustainability, including renewable energy, waste reduction, and environmental protection. Demonstrate leadership, ethical decision-making, and social responsibility in their professional roles in chemical engineering or related fields, contributing to sustainable solutions that benefit communities and address global needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-student-learning-outcomes-for-chemical-engineering\">Student Learning Outcomes for Chemical Engineering<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Student outcomes for the chemical engineering program are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1) an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex chemical engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2) an ability to apply chemical engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3) an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4) an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in chemical engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5) an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>6) an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>7) an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-curriculum\">Curriculum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering degree curriculum provides a strong background in core engineering and science courses with an emphasis on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thermodynamics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transport phenomena, including fluid, heat, and mass transfer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Separations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Process design and development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chemical engineering program requires 127 semester credit hours for graduation.
