About Me:

Hey everyone, I am Cathryn. I am going into my 5th year of pharmacy at Butler University. I am also working toward a minor in Science, Technology & Society! In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and writing. I've been working on NaNoWriMo and am hoping to be published at some point in the near future as well. Most of the time you can catch me studying in the library or browsing the Internet. Oh, and did I mention that I got married last summer?

Napping and Netflix

I LOVE ALLITERATION.

Okay, I just shared a secret. Now you share a secret!

Whenever I take a nap on the couch, if I’m coherent enough to plan it, I’ll try and set my phone with an alarm to wake me up. I’ll also turn on Netflix so there’s something on the TV to help me wake up. If I don’t, I could sleep for hours. Especially now that it gets dark early, if it’s nighttime-looking outside and quiet in the apartment I’m just out like a light.

This is especially important during study times when I tend to get tired and just fall asleep at random. I need to be prepared.

On Netflix, I need to pick something that I can stand having on the TV but isn’t interesting enough for me to want to watch. The other day I made the mistake of turning on Paranormal Witness.

IT WAS AWESOME. And terrifying. And weird. There’s only 6 episodes up right now but the ones I watched so far were pretty excellent, especially with Halloween coming up. Needless to say, I didn’t really get a nap in after I turned it on. The first episode had to do with a poltergeist befriending a little girl and … yeah. Creepy.

So speaking of creepy things, we’re getting really giant spiders in our apartment, including tarantula-sized wolf spiders and one that dared to show its face in daylight. Here is the harrowing tale. And I know I didn’t crop the video and I don’t want to talk about it–I had to listen to like 8 Richard Mourdock videos while I mistakenly tried to upload it to Photobucket.

I’ve reemerged!

I am appalled at my lack of frequent updating. I don’t really have a concrete reason for the giant gaps. I think it is because my life is so uninteresting that I have to let several days creep by in order to let something interesting happen. ;)

I hope everyone had a super Halloween! We had 0 trick or treaters! MORE CANDY FOR ME.

My costume was really cool though. I was a Mandalorian. I bet you didn’t know until just now that there’s a Star Wars specific wiki. You’re welcome!

I bought not one, but TWO bags of candy in preparation for Halloween festivities. I like chocolate, myself, so I bought the Milky Way/Snickers/3 Musketeers combo, and because it was severely lacking in peanut butter, I bought a separate bag of Reese’s to mix in. Although we didn’t have trick or treaters, I took it upon myself to mow through several candy bars to make myself feel better (at least they were fun-sized?).

All in all, Halloween was a bust. What we did manage to accomplish the week before was watching all three Paranormal Activity movies, and The Exorcist. I’m not really a horror movie fan, but I really liked the PA series and The Exorcist. I think I prefer movies that don’t have murderers in them. That just bothers me for some reason.

Okay well! Lighter topics! I’m in the Science Library right now and I just ate food. I feel ostracized when I eat food in libraries because the wrappers are all loud and everyone else is like, “Stupid person eating, ruining my studying and making me hungry!” This may be all in my head, however.

Happy October!!

I love October! Curtis and I started dating in October of 2005. Fall might be my favorite season, mostly because I love sweaters more than I love coats, and you can wear nice boots without getting them mucked up in snow. Additionally, I want to get married in October of 2013. Basically October and I should be together.

Campus during fall is so pretty too!

And another thing.

STARBUCKS PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES. What was unfortunate last year was that, during this time, I was slowly investigating an occasional (but increasing in frequency) all-encompassing, life-halting stomach pain (I’m exaggerating) that would crop up at the weirdest times. Finally, with the power of medical databases, I deduced that my stomach pain was correlated with the amount of milk intake I had. Including pumpkin spice lattes–well, and all other lattes, for that matter. My doctor told me to self-diagnose myself with lactose intolerance, which I’m pretty sure is what I decided.

I have a bunch of theories about how and why I developed it, but I won’t go into it now. I also love milk so this has been a problem.

For about a year, the idea of lattes repulsed me, for fear of getting those stomach pains. Luckily, that’s worn off, and I just pop a lactase supplement with my latte, and now I’m BACK IN BUSINESS. (It’s really hard to take a pill with burning hot coffee, let me tell you.)

The other thing about October that I love is HALLOWEEN. Unfortunately, clusters are scheduled over Halloween weekend. I will complain more about it when the time comes. For now, let’s reminisce about how I built Mandalorian armor in the dorm room sophomore year.
