Graduate Non-Degree Programs
These programs are for prospective students holding a bachelor’s degree who wish to take courses for credit without pursuing a degree. Graduate non-degree opportunities include enrolling in graduate coursework without regular admission to a graduate degree program, or enrolling in one of Butler’s certificate programs, listed below. Graduate Non-Degree Application Requirements
- Butler Application
- Request transcripts from each regionally accredited college/university attended.
- Transcripts must be submitted directly from the issuing institution; institutions may submit transcripts online to gradadmission@butler.edu or by mail to the Office of Admission.
- The institution must be a regionally accredited college or university and the transcript must indicate the date the degree was conferred.
- Butler University transcripts are not required from current Butler University students and alumni. If you have submitted official transcripts from other institutions within the last three years, you may not need to submit them again. Please contact the Office of Admission to confirm.
- Personal statement describing the area of study you're planning to pursue and/or courses you're planning to take, and why you'd like to do so.
- Additional requirements set by program (see below)

Personal Statement Topic
Please describe specifically how the StrategicCommunication certificate program in particular will help you reach your goals. We also hope you will provide any additional information that would provide context as we review all of your materials, from transcripts to work record, etc. For example, perhaps you wish to explain some inconsistencies in your undergraduate or professional career. The essay is your opportunity to make an argument for yourself. Another purpose of the essay is for us to assess the quality of your writing, so make sure that you provide a thoughtful essay that is thorough, well-organized, persuasive, and clear.
Additional Application Requirements
Two letters of recommendation (For applicants with less than 3 years professional experience in a communication-related field, at least one reference letter will ideally come from a full-time faculty member at your undergraduate institution.); résumé; GRE or GMAT (will be waived if undergraduate GPA is a 3.0 or higher)
