International Studies: Recommended Three-Year Path

Notes:

  • *This course fulfills both an international studies requirement, as well as the social world core requirement.
  • **If the students take RL 250 Religions of the World, this will count for both their TI, as well as International Studies major. Otherwise, a student would need an additional Group A international studies course (accounted for in this three-year plan).
  • Being an interdisciplinary program, International Studies is reliant on other departments for many of its courses. So, a three-year degree program is dependent on what courses offered in other departments, the timing of those courses, as well as the timing/rotation of international studies specific courses.
  • International Studies Major: 42 credit hours needed; 33 of the total hours must be through 300+ level courses.
  • Studying abroad, something many of our students choose to do, can have an effect on graduating in three years, depending on the number of credits a student is taking.
  • Studying a semester in Washington DC can have a positive or negative effect on graduating in three years, depending on the number of credits students are taking.
  • This plan assumes no placement into a foreign language, and that neither of the student’s international studies area concentrations will be in a foreign language. If a student has tested into a higher foreign language, then they can replace those courses listed above with electives in other departments.
  • Under this plan, students will also need to take a total of four courses (12 credits) (over the summers) in order to reach Butler’s 120-credit requirement for graduation. This can include internships (for credit).
  • This plan is assuming no transfer credits, nor any advanced placement credits.
