The Founding of Sigma Gamma Rho at Butler University and its History: An Exhibit at the Irwin Library (February 7–18, 2022)
This exhibit will focus on introducing people to Sigma Gamma Rho and its founding at Butler University, its founders and their relationship to the university, and its early years as it became a national sorority. All images will be reproductions taken from Butler collections held in Special Collections, or found in other repositories. Didactic text will accompany the images. This exhibit will be used during both on-campus Sigma Gamma Rho centennial celebration occurring in July and November 2022. The exhibit will be located in the atrium of Irwin Library and open to the entire Butler community and the community at large during library hours. Please note masks are required for entrance into any Butler University facility.
Shortridge Founder’s Celebration Art Contest: Sigma Gamma Rho, Women and Education—Irwin Library (February 7-18, 2022)
Students at Shortridge were asked to create art that reflects our 2022 Founder’s Celebration theme: Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority: The Greatness that Began Here. Student artists are encouraged to interpret the theme and create a piece of art in the visual medium of their choice. Pieces will be exhibited in the atrium of Irwin Library. Judging by the Butler Arts+Design faculty, Sigma Gamma Rho members, and others will take place during the exhibit which is open to the Butler Community and the community at large during library hours. Please note masks are required for entrance into any Butler University facility.
2022 Shortridge Arts Showcase—Shelton Auditorium (February 8, 2022, 6:30 PM)
Shortridge Performing Arts is proud to present the 2022 Shortridge Arts Showcase. This annual event, in conjunction with Butler’s Founder’s Celebration, is the celebration of the rich history of Shortridge band, orchestra, choir, dance, and theatre. Please join us for an evening of performances celebrating the arts at Shortridge. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets required. Founder’s Award Ceremony and Keynote Address—Reilly Room (February 16, 2022, 7:00 PM)
The inaugural founder’s award – which recognizes and celebrates individuals or organizations who embody Butler University’s values of innovation, excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion will be bestowed to Sigma Gamma Rho International Sorority, Inc. Following the awards ceremony, Molly Ford, Vice President of Employee Brand and Recruitment Marketing at Salesforce and a member of Sigma Gamma Rho, will deliver the Founder’s Celebration keynote Address. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets required. Please note masks are required for entrance into any Butler University facility.
