Online Tutoring

The Writers' Studio now offers online tutoring, which allows students to work with a tutor without having to come in to the Studio. In order to set up an online appointment:

  1. Send an email to writers@butler.edu with Online Tutoring in the subject line.
  2. Include a brief description of the assignment in the body of the e-mail, along with your professor's first and last name, and the course name and number. Indicate what areas you'd like the tutor to focus on (organization, thesis, development, transitions, etc.) Remember that this service is not here for proofreading alone. If you have any other questions or concerns for the tutor, feel free to include them.
  3. Attach your paper, and if possible a copy of the assignment or prompt. Make sure the attachments are Microsoft Word files (.doc, .docx).
  4. You will receive a confirmation email from a tutor indicating when your paper will be ready. Expect a 48-hour or sooner turnaround for papers less than 10 pages long (subject to change depending on the volume of requests during peak hours). Papers more than 10 pages may take longer, but the tutor will let you know when the work will be completed.

When the online tutoring session has been completed, you will receive an email from the Studio. Your paper will be returned with the tutor's suggestions in the margins (using the Track Changes and Review functions in MS Word), along with any additional feedback.
