Katie is a senior from Plymouth, Indiana studying journalism and political science with a minor in peace studies. This will be Katie's first year working as a member of the volunteer center staff. Katie is involved in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Butler Catholic Community Leadership Team, Dawg Pound, and the International Club. She volunteers because she loves helping others and enjoy the satisfaction that comes along with the experience. Volunteering is just one of the many ways that she demonstrates her love and care for assisting others.

Responsibilities

  • Run workshops, one at the beginning of each semester, for students to learn the process of setting up meaningful service projects
  • Support all other Volunteer Center Staff in publicity/promotion of events and projects 
  • Design the Volunteer Center bulletin boards in Jordan Hall and outside the Volunteer Center office
  • Work on campus wide education campaign on service
  • Work on marketing the Volunteer Center more to campus
  • Emphasize service in the classroom by reaching out to professors and classes, especially exploratory majors and service learning classes
  • Research resources for service (books, websites, conferences, trends, etc)
  • Serve as a liaison to student groups such as service organizations, Greek chapters, etc.
  • Coordinate and send out a monthly web newsletter on a as needed basis
  • Gather information on community sponsored events/activities (on-going opportunities, one time projects, etc) to distribute to various student organizations and interested majors
  • Develop programs/outreach to first year students during the beginning of fall semester
  • Serve as a liaison to Residential Assistants
  • Create and give a presentation on the Volunteer Center and volunteering at SGA and at Greek houses during chapter
  • Work on revamping the Volunteer of the Month
  • Work on adding a set number of people to the listserv every month
  • Conduct a campus wide evaluation to better understand the Volunteer Center's strengths, weaknesses
  • Attend various student organizations meeting encouraging co-sponsorships and providing information about the Volunteer Center
  • Coordinate a Volunteer Center table, materials, and set up for Block Party and Winter Block Party
  • Other duties as assigned
