Everyone loves a classic game of BINGO, especially Butler
students! On February 22nd, eleven Butler volunteers gathered
play Bingo and socialize with the elderly of the community.
Westminster Village is dedicated to providing health care and
residential services to senior adults of the Indianapolis area. By
enhancing their spiritual, physical, and mental well-being, the
employees of Westminster Village ensure that their members' needs
are kept and respected.
Westminster Village strives to create a welcoming
environment stating, "it's all about the freedom to live your life
the way you choose". This service project allowed for students to
have direct interaction with the community of Westminster Village.
Freshman Kevin Rhinesmith had a wonderful experience at Westminster
Village, "getting to spend time with the elderly in our community
is something that I rarely get the opportunity to do and I really
enjoyed it. Hearing all the stories and simply getting to know the
people that live at Westminster Village was terrific and I look
forward to going back to volunteer there in the
Volunteer Center Project Coordinator, Hannah Cianci, tries
to organize service projects that address a wide range of community
needs and social issues. This allows for Butler students to
participate in specific service projects that interest them, which
can change the perception of volunteering as a requirement or
responsibility to an enjoyable experience. Cianci was very pleased
with the volunteers' willingness to fully engage with the senior
adults, "it was a great experience to be able to brighten up a few
peoples' days just by playing Bingo with them".
