Little Red Door Cancer Agency

Red Door

In our society, the words "I have cancer" have become far too common. Children, teens, adults, and seniors are all susceptible to this terrible disease that has taken many lives. However, there is always hope! The Little Red Door Cancer Agency  is the oldest, local cancer resource in central Indiana. Helping over 7,000 Hoosiers a year, Little Red Door Cancer Agency strives to reduce the physical, emotional, and financial burden that cancer creates for the working poor and unemployed residents of Indiana.

With the mission of "making the most out of life and the least of cancer for the medically underserved residents of Central Indiana", the Little Red Door Cancer Agency offers a variety of free services, including screening and detection, education, free year-round screenings for breast, cervical, and prostate cancer, as well as transportation to and from treatment, wigs, breast prostheses and bras, medical supplies, and free nutrition supplements.

Butler volunteers were able to work with the Little Red Door to make tie blankets for many of their patients. Although unable to work directly with the cancer patients, this volunteer opportunity allowed for students to create a small token that showed their support for the patients and their families. The eight volunteers were able to make 15 tie blankets that will be given to several of the Little Red Door patients. Freshman Anna Rauh was one of the Butler students who participated in this service project. Anna really enjoyed volunteering with Little Red Door because "they cover all aspects of healing their clients: emotionally, physically, and medically. It was very cool to see such a positive environment for cancer patients of all ages."
