Mission: Our mission is to facilitate access to
dignified, end-of-life care and quality services that allow our
patients and families the hospice option to live life richly,
deeply and meaningfully for as long as it lasts.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Direct Patient Volunteer without pet: Volunteers offer
companionship. Like a friendly neighbor, they can assist with
simple tasks like writing letters, reading to the patient, massage
therapy, playing cards or other activities.
Direct Patient
Volunteer with pet: These folks visit patients with their certified
therapy pets to offer companionship and a touch of home for
patients who love pets. The visits of the volunteer & dog
partners enrich patient's lives, and spark reminisces about dogs
the patient has had in their lifetime. We can help in your pet
obtaining this certification.
Office Volunteer: Assists in the Harbor Light Hospice office
answering phones, filing, and doing general office duties. Hours
are flexible.
Vigil Volunteer: These specially trained volunteers focus on
patients and their families at the critical time when the patient
is at the end of life. They offer support and comfort.
Respite Volunteers: Volunteers are asked to provide one to four
hours companionship to the patient who is ill. This gives the
caregiver a much needed respite to: take a nap, go for a walk,
grocery shop, meet friends, go to a doctor's appointment or run
errands.
Craft Volunteers: People who enjoy doing crafts can make
scrapbooks or shadow boxes for patient's rooms. Patients love to
reminisce and relive the happy moments in their lives. They can
also make promotional materials or fun gifts for patients.
Activity/Event Volunteers: Plan and execute activities or events
for our patients. This can be a one time activity that can be done
with a group. An example of an activity is sharing your talent for
the playing of a musical instrument to provide comfort and
entertainment to our patients.
One time group volunteers have to be at least 18 years old, fill
out an information sheet, confidentiality agreement and photo
release form.
