Preceptors mentor and train pharmacy and health sciences students during their experiential rotations in the professional education program phases.
The requirements, skills and training necessary to become a preceptor vary depending on the specific rotation, but generally preceptors need to have either at least two years experience in their area of expertise, or have an advanced degree or residency.
Pharmacy preceptors need to have experience in precepting pharmacy or medical students in experiential education. For those preceptors who lack experience, we may make one-year interim appointments in which one is “paired” with a more experienced preceptor and subsequently evaluated.
Preceptors for the PA program should be members in good standing of a hospital medical physician staff. PA or NP preceptors should have similar credentials and or be employed by a physician who does.
While preceptors are generally selected a year in advance, there are times when we need to request a rotation from a new preceptor during the year. If you would like to apply to precept Butler students, please submit your curriculum vitae along with a completed application form (PDF file) address listed on the form.
