Opportunities Through The CUE
Butler
students are the life of the center. The CUE works cooperatively
with local conservation based non-profits to create experiential
learning opportunities for students. ,The CUE is now sponsoring
some paid student internships within the Indianapolis area. Most of
our positions are filled for the Fall 2009 semester, but many are
still available. These positions may also be available on a
volunteer basis at first and then move into a paid position. For

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc
KIB's Adopt-A-Block program is an on-going block
beautification program with a goal of involving more people to help
keep their neighborhoods clean, safe and beautified. KIB seeks an
intern to help administer this program, improve its effectiveness,
and enhance its impact in the community. Responsibilities will
include visiting adopted blocks and scoring them, notifying blocks
of their scores and upcoming opportunities, recruiting participants
and assisting with events. In addition, KIB would like this
intern to asses the preservation success of selected past projects
by visiting project sites, evaluating the state of the projects,
and notifying neighborhood groups on how the lasting impact of
their community project can be improved through maintenance
activities.
Central Indiana Land Trust - FILLED SUMMER 2009
Central Indiana Land Trust seeks an intern to accompany staff
naturalists to various nature preserves for spot checks, evaluation
and management. Office time will be spent doing education and
outreach, and assisting in the Wildlands certification program. The
ability to commit a full, eight-hour day one time per week is
strongly desired due to field work and site visits.
Indiana Wildlife Federation - FILLED for FALL 2009
To address the increasing threat human development poses on
habitat, the Indiana Wildlife Federation (IWF) has developed an
incentive-based conservation program that provides assistance to
development professionals in implementing conservation plans during
the development project. The IWF seeks an intern to assist with
this program, the Wildlife-Friendly Certification Program. The
intern will perform tasks such as compiling a comprehensive list of
environmental BMP's, attending meetings, and writing Wildlife
Habitat Plans. He/she will be required to work a minimum of 10
hours per week and at least one day per week at the IWF office. The
length of the internship will be 4 months starting immediately.
Upon completion there may be additional opportunities to continue
the internship working on additional projects. This position is for
juniors and seniors, and experience working with GIS is
preferred.
Upper White River Watershed Alliance
The Upper White River Watershed Alliance (UWRWA) is looking for
a student intern to assist in its regional planning and educational
efforts. The intern for the Alliance would be expected to
work independently, as there is no central office for the UWRWA;
however, significant guidance from Alliance staff would be provided
via bi-weekly meetings and electronic communication. The number of
hours per week are flexible; however, a minimum 15 hrs/week
commitment is necessary. Intern will need to have their own
transportation to meet bi-weekly with UWRWA staff.
