The Pulliam Grant
Butler University's Center for Urban Ecology was awarded a grant
from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust in 2008. The center
pursued a grant with the trust based on a mutual interest in nature
and animals, and a commitment to community and education.
Upon receiving this grant, the center was able to hire its first
full-time staff member, a program manager, in August of 2008.Grant
funds have also allowed the center to start additional on-campus
research projects, bird walks, begin outreach efforts, and an
internship program. This internship program places approximately
four students per semester in positions with local, conservation
based,non-profit organizations. Additionally, beginning in the Fall
of 2009, the center will be actively involved with the Indianapolis
Public School's new Shortridge Magnet Middle/High School for Law
and Public Policy.
