Butler University Honorary Degree Policy and Procedure
The University's conferral of an honorary degree
provides the University with an opportunity to recognize an
individual who has lived a life of extraordinary accomplishment,
distinguished service, and significant contribution to the
University, to society, and/or to the world. An honorary degree is
awarded to an individual who has demonstrated throughout his or her
career and service a commitment to the highest standards of
excellence, integrity, and concern for the public good. The
honorary degree recipient is an individual whose personal qualities
and values are consistent with those espoused by the University for
its graduates. Honorary degree recipients should be "uncommonly
meritorious" individuals worthy of respect and emulation.
