Professional Partnerships

The Indiana Repertory Theatre

Butler Theatre enjoys a creative partnership with the Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT), Indiana’s largest, fully professional regional theatre, located in downtown Indianapolis. The benefits of this partnership include:

• A freshman orientation program which provides first-semester theatre majors access to the artistic, administrative and technical staff of the IRT, as an introduction to professional theatre practice.

• A stage management training program, taught by the IRT’s senior stage management team.
• Professional internships for juniors and seniors in all areas of the theatre’s operation.
• Performance opportunities. An increasing number of theatre majors have made their professional acting debuts at the IRT during their four years of study.
• Opportunities for paid employment. The IRT regularly offers theatre majors the opportunity to work as members of the Front of House staff and as part of the run crew on productions.
• Viewing professional theatre. All theatre majors are required to attend performances at the IRT on a regular basis throughout each academic year.

The Phoenix Theatre

This small professional theatre, also located in downtown Indianapolis, specializes in staging issue-oriented contemporary theatre works. The Phoenix offers Butler
theatre majors the following benefits:

• Regular exposure to the work of contemporary
  playwrights
  
• Opportunities to intern in stage management and
  technical capacities
  
• Opportunities to perform
