The Indiana Repertory Theatre

Butler Theatre enjoys a creative partnership with the Indiana Repertory Theatre(IRT), Indiana's largest, fully professional regional theatre, located in downtown Indianapolis. The benefits of this partnership include:

  • A freshman orientation program which provides first-semester theatre majors access to the artistic, administrative, and technical staff of the IRT, as an introduction to professional theatre practice.
  • A stage management training program, taught by the IRT's senior stage management team.
  • Opportunities to intern in a wide variety of areas including dramaturgy, stage management, design, marketing, company management, and more.
  • Opportunities to perform; many theatre majors have made their professional debuts at the IRT over the years.
  • Opportunities for paid employment. The IRT regularly offers theatre majors the opportunity to work as members of the Front of House staff and as part of the run crew on productions.

Heartland Actors' Repertory Theatre

Butler is entering into a new partnership with one of Indy's newest Equity theatres. Our Chair, Diane Timmerman, is Producing Artistic Director for the Heartland Actors' Repertory Theatre (HART) whose flagship production is free outdoor Shakespeare in downtown Indianapolis' White River State Park. Stay tuned to see how our partnership with HART develops.

In the meantime, Butler Theatre majors and Butler Theatre alumni are working onstage and backstage as part of HART's Taming of the Shrew production Aug. 9 and 10, 2013.
