Seven Brothers to Be Inducted Into Order Omega

November 2, 2009 - The seven members that will be inducted into Order of Omega on campus are Alex Isaacs (EM 1266), Erik Angelotti (EM 1292), Zac Colby (EM 1263), Jonathan Spear (EM 1289), David Martin (EM 1287), Thomas Pechin(EM 1274), and Brett Reardon (EM 1297). This honor is given to the top 3% percent of the Greek community. Good work, brothers.

Seven Brothers Honored As Top 100 Students On Campus

April 3, 2009 - Seven members of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu were honored by the Butler University Alumni Association for being among the Top 100 Outstanding Students for 2008-2009. Brothers Joe Bowman (EM1246), Thomas Holobyn (EM 1264), Alex Isaacs (EM 1266), Chad Lesczynski (EM 1265), Sagar Patel (EM 1284), Steven Pelych (EM 1268), Devin Shone (EM 1244), were among the honorees. This honor is given to those whose exemplary character, scholarship, dedication, and leadership warrant this special commendation. Two of the seven brothers were further honored as a part of the Top 10 Men. These two brothers are Joseph Bowman and Devin Shone.

2009 Pledge Class Starts Off Strong By Winning Freshman Skits

March 12, 2009 - The candidate class for 2008-2009 earned a First Place finish in Freshman Skits. This year the audience viewed a skit based on the internet video website, YouTube, with a twist: the theme was “BlueTube.” The plot of the skit includes a personification of the norovirus, a group of viruses that cause the stomach flu, that was spread throughout campus previously in the year due to improperly prepared foods. The norovirus, portrayed by Matthew Karnstedt, decides to conquer Butler by targeting the President of Butler University, Bobby Fong. The only way for Butler and President Fong to succeed is with the help of the BlueGroup with their BlueTubes and sweet dance moves. One more important thing to note about this accomplishment is that this is the first time in recent history, probably approaching twenty to twenty-five years, that Sigma Nu has won this competition.

Epsilon Mu Chapter Welcomes 25 New Candidates

January 11, 2009 - The Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu has recently completed its formal recruitment for the 2009 academic year. The chapter will welcome 25 new candidates that have exemplified the ideals of Love, Honor, and Truth. Many of these men hold leadership positions on the Butler campus and come from a variety of disciplines including Actuarial Science, Biology, and Arts Administration.

Brother Dane Suarez Wins Homecoming King Crown

Sept. 19, 2008 - The annual homecoming festivities were concluded with the crowning of Sigma Nu's own Dane Suarez during the homecoming football halftime presentation. Congratulations Dane!

Epsilon Mu Chapter Named a Rock Chapter at the 63rd Grand Chapter

July 17, 2008 - The Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu was awarded the Rock Chapter Award at the 63rd Grand Chapter held in Austin, TX. This award is Sigma Nu's highest chapter award, meant to honor collegiate chapters that have achieved excellence in all areas of chapter operations. To be granted the award, a chapter must attain the ideals, or nearly perfect state on a broad range of fraternity operations for at lease a 3 year period. The Epsilon Mu chapter was represented at Grand Chapter by Commander Steve Pelych and Marshal Chad Lesczynski, who served as the voting representatives. Brothers Dane Suarez, who served as the General Intern for Sigma Nu Headquarters Staff, and Greg Moser were also in attendance.

During the closing ceremonies, the Epsilon Mu chapter was also awarded several other honors, including:

  • Excellence in LEAD Phase I
  • Excellence in LEAD Phase II
  • Excellence in All Chapter LEAD
  • Academic Commendation Award
  • Man of the Year - Forrest Heyman
  • Alpha Affiliate - Forrest Heyman


Brother Forrest Heyman Named Man of the Year and Alpha Affiliate

July 17, 2008 - Brother Forrest Heyman has been inducted into Sigma Nu Fraternity's Alpha Chapter. The Alpha Affiliate Award is given only to ten individuals each year who demonstrate a high performance of personal honor, integrity and character. Leadership in motivating and persuading others to follow worthy examples of the honor principle is especially important. Additional criteria that is evaluated include the applicant’s ability and personal commitment to the betterment of his fraternity, college and community, and evidence of his having brought unique recognition to his own brotherhood. Additionally, Forrest was awarded with the Man of the Year Award, Sigma Nu's most prestgious personal award, commending that winner for his excellence in the area of leadership.

Forrest is a 2008 graduate of Butler University with a degree in Economics. While at Butler University, Forrest held many leadership positions including Executive Assistant for the Student Government Association, and President of the Butler University Student Foundation. Forrest was one of Butler University’s Top 10 Outstanding Students for 2007-2008. As a member of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu, Forrest served as Commander, Treasurer, and Progression Chairman.

This fall, Forrest will be heading to Seattle, Washington to begin his career with the Boeing Company.

Sigma Nu Finishes Strong Academic Year

May 15, 2008 - Sigma Nu at Butler University has finished another strong academic year, capturing a 3.33 GPA. Sigma Nu finished second on campus for the eleventh time in thirteen semesters. This is also the 13th consecutive semester Sigma Nu has finished among the top three on campus.

Brother Bowman Named Volunteer of the Year

May 10, 2008 - The Epsilon Mu chapter would like to congratulate Brother Joe Bowman for winning the Volunteer Center's "Butler University Volunteer of the Year Award." Brother Bowman is an active member of College Mentors for Kids, for which he currently serves as Vice President. Additionally, Joe holds membership in Big Brothers Big Sisters and has donated countless amounts of time for Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and Relay for Life. Congratulations Joe!

Chapter Hosts White Star Initiation Banquet

April 12, 2008 - The newest initiates of the Epsilon Mu chapter were recognized at the chapter's first White Star Initiation Banquet, held in the elegant Johnson Room in Robertson Hall on Butler's campus. The entire current chapter membership was present, and the Epsilon Mu chapter has recognized the following individuals for their outstanding dedication to their field.

  • Pledge of the Year - Jonathan Spear
  • Athlete of the Year - Tommy Pechin
  • Talent of the Year - Dane Suarez

In addition, the chapter recognizes alumni Fred Groneau, Tom Lofton, and Dick Thompson for their outstanding leadership, wisdom, and perseverance as chapter advisors for Epsilon Mu. These efforts were recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to Brothers Groneau, Lofton, and Thompson by Commander Forrest Heyman. Sigma Nu Wins Greek Excellence Award

April 10, 2008 - The Epsilon Mu chapter won the Outstanding Chapter Scholarship Award at the annual Greek Excellence Awards banquet. The awards are sponsored by Order of Omega.

Sigma Nu Reigned Champions in Spring Sing

April 5, 2008 - The men of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu competed in the annual Spring Sing competition on Saturday, April 5, finishing 1st overall. This year's theme was "I Love the 90s."Paired with the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega, Sigma Nu's program featured such songs as "Lip Gloss" and " We Are Family". This marks the fourth time in five years that the men of Sigma Nu earned a top finish among the fraternities.

Annual Week of Service a Success

March 29, 2008 - The men of Sigma Nu successfully completed the chapter's sixth annual philanthropy week, allowing the chapter to contribute a large donation to Habitat for Humanity. The annual powderpuff football tournament, now dubbed "Snuper Bowl," ended the week. The Women of Delta Delta Delta came won the 1st place trophy. Congratulations Tri-Delta!

Sigma Nu Places at Freshman Skits

March 15, 2008 - The candidate class for 2007-2008 earned a Third Place finish in Freshman Skits. This year the audience viewed a skit based on the television show "Sweet Sixteen" in which a young Butler student attempts to throw the best party for the Butler Men's Basketball Sweet Sixteen game. After running into countless problems, the crew is finally able to enjoy the game and throw a successful Sweet Sixteen Party. The skit included many hit songs including "Call On Me" by Eric Prydz. This marks the fifth time in six years that the men of Sigma Nu have finished among the top three in this inter-fraternity activity.

Epsilon Mu Completes 2008 Recruitment Season

February 10, 2008 - The Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu has recently completed its formal recruitment for 2008. The chapter will welcome 14 new candidates that have exemplified the ideals of Love, Honor, and Truth. Many of these men hold leadership positions on the Butler campus and come from a variety of disciplines including Pharmacy, Journalism, and Secondary Education.

Brother Heyman Receives Order of Omega Scholarship

December 28, 2007 - Brother Forrest Heyman (EM1243) recently received the $750 undergraduate Scholarship Award from the Order of Omega. Honorees must display leadership and service to their Order of Omega chapter, the Greek community, and Campus Life. Congratulations Forrest!

December 10, 2007 - Six members of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu were honored by the Butler University Alumni Association for being among the Top 100 Outstanding Students for 2007-2008. Brothers Joe Bowman (EM1246), Kalin Clifford (EM1250), Matt Fuss (EM1215), Forrest Heyman (EM1243), Devin Shone (EM1244), and Sean Woolen (EM1245) were among the honorees. This honor is given to those whose exemplary character, scholarship, dedication, and leadership warrant this special commendation.

The Men of Sigma Nu capture Geneva Stunts Championship

October 27, 2007 - Paired with Kappa Kappa Gamma, Sigma Nu won this year's Geneva Stunts, earning the first place trophy, as well as the Spirit Award, Originality Award, and Judges' Favorite Award. This year's theme was "Retro Remix," and Sigma Nu and partners Kappa Kappa Gamma took the audience through a timewarp of Butler students featuring songs such as "Atherton Delight" and "We Are Family."

Sigma Nu wins Frisbee Fling 2007

October 5, 2007 - Sigma Nu won this year's Frisbee Fling, the annual philanthropic competition hosted by Alpha Chi Omega. Paired with partners Alpha Phi, the men of Sigma Nu came in first place in the Frisbee Fling to benefit the Julian Center. This year's theme was "That Fling You Do."

Chapter Earns High Honors at National Conclave

June 26, 2007 - The Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu was well represented at the 2007 College of Chapters, held in Lexington, VA, June 23-27. Brothers Scott Fisher (EM1219), Devin Shone (EM1244), Joe Bowman (EM1246), and Chad Lesczynski (EM1265) represented the chapter during a series of leadership, recruitment, and risk management workshops. Brother Greg Moser (EM1210, A535) also attended the conclave, serving as a facilitator.

This makes the fourth consecutive year that the Epsilon Mu chapter has been recognized as one of the Top 10 fraternity chapters in the world, a streak matched by only one other chapter. Additionally, in being awarded the LEAD Chapter of the Year, the Epsilon Mu chapter was rewarded for its commitment to ethical leadership training. The Butler chapter continues to lead the nation on the path to excellence.

Brother Bryan Frauhiger honored as International Scholar of the Year

June 26, 2007 - Brother Bryan Eric Frauhiger (EM1236) was recently named Sigma Nu International Fraternity’s 2007 International Scholar of the Year. This award is given to the individual who most upholds academic values and endeavors in the international fraternity, which currently boasts over 8,000 undergraduate members worldwide.

Bryan has been an active member of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu at Butler University since 2006. He has helped lead the chapter in its academic endeavors. Bryan graduated Cum Laude from Butler University with Highest Honors in Chemistry. In the fall, he will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he will be working toward his doctoral degree in Inorganic Chemistry.

Brother Greg Moser Named Alpha Affiliate

June 26, 2007 - Brother Gregory E. Moser (EM1210, A535) has been inducted into Sigma Nu Fraternity's Alpha Chapter. The Alpha Affiliate Award is given only to ten individuals each year who demonstrate a high performance of personal honor, integrity and character. Additional criteria that is evaluated include the applicant’s ability and personal commitment to the betterment of his fraternity, college and community, and evidence of his having brought unique recognition to his own brotherhood.

Greg is a 2007 graduate of Butler University with degrees in Political Science and Communication Studies. While at Butler University, Greg was the captain of the Butler University Speech and Debate Team and was inducted into several honor societies including Order of Omega and Lambda Pi Eta. Greg was one of Butler University’s Top 100 Outstanding Students for 2006-2007. As a member of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu, Greg served as Marshal and Commander. At the 62nd Grand Chapter, held in Indianapolis in 2006, Greg was awarded the International Talent of the Year Award.

Greg has served the General Fraternity by helping plan LEAD and Recruitment Institutes on his campus and by serving on the Host Committee and Credentials Committee at last year's Grand Chapter. This year, Greg served as a facilitator at the 2007 College of Chapters at Sigma Nu's birthplace in Lexington, VA. This fall, Greg will be pursuing his Master's Degree in Speech Communication at Miami University in Oxford, OH.

Sigma Nu Finishes Strong Academic Year

May 12, 2007 - Sigma Nu at Butler University has finished another strong academic year, capturing a 3.38 GPA, the highest GPA the chapter has ever attained. Nine brothers captured perfect 4.0 GPAs, leading to Sigma Nu finishing second on campus for the ninth time in eleven semesters. This is also the 11th consecutive semester Sigma Nu has finished among the top three on campus, Also, 10 seniors participated in commencement, including Brothers Zach Brown, Rob Cerulo, Steve Doxas, Bryan Frauhiger, Nick Friedman, Josh Lyngaas, Matt Malloy, Greg Moser, Austin Stanforth and Clay Strong.

Sigma Nu is Awarded the Lamp of Wisdom

April 19, 2007 - For the second time in three years, the men of Sigma Nu have been awarded the Lamp of Wisdom. This award is given to the campus organization that most excels in community service and philanthropic endeavors. As the only Greek organization to have won the award, Sigma Nu is continuing to raise its standard of excellence.

Greek Excellence Awards Prove Fruitful for Sigma Nu

April 10, 2007 - The Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu won two major awards in the annual Greek Excellence Awards. The chapter won the Outstanding Chapter Scholarship Award, and the award for Outstanding New Member Education. The awards are sponsored by Order of Omega.

Brother Lyons Wins Order of Omega Election

April 10, 2007 - Brother Ross Lyons (EM1217) was recently elected to the position of Secretary of Order of Omega, an honor society composed of the top 3% of Greeks. Brother Lyons is the first Sigma Nu to be an officer of the organization in recent memory. Ross has been active in Order of Omega , helping plan such events as Greeks Leading Greeks and the Greek Excellence Awards.

Sigma Nu Earns Top Finish Among Fraternities in Spring Sing

March 31, 2007 - The men of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu competed in the annual Spring Sing competition on Saturday, March 31, finishing 1st out of the fraternities and 2nd overall. This year's theme was "I Love the 90s."Paired with the ladies of Pi Beta Phi, Sigma Nu's program featured such songs as "Mmmbop" by Hanson and " Spice World" by the Spice Girls. This marks the third time in four years that the men of Sigma Nu earned a top finish among the fraternities. Sigma Chi was the only other fraternity to place in 2007, coming in third overall.

Brothers Honored as Top 100 Students

March 30, 2007 - Five members of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu were honored by the Butler University Alumni Association for being among the Top 100 Outstanding Students for 2006-2007. This honor is given to those whose distinguished accomplishments in the academic and extracurricular life of Butler University, and whose exemplary character, scholarship, dedication and leadership warrant this special commendation. Brothers Cory Layton (EM1201), Greg Moser (EM1210), Matt Fuss (EM1215), David Owens (EM1224), and Bryan Frauhiger (EM1236) were among the honorees. Bryan Frauhiger was also named among the Top 10 Outstanding Male Students.

Founders Week of Service a Success

March 24, 2007 - The men of Sigma Nu successfully completed the chapter's fifth annual philanthropy week, earning a record number of dollars to be given to World Vision. The week culminated in the annual powderpuff football tournament among the sororities, World Vision Bowl. The Women of Kappa Kappa Gamma came out on top for the second consecutive year.

Chapter to Host Golf Outing

March 5, 2007 - The 2007 Epsilon Mu chapter Alumni and Parent Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Eagle Creek Golf Course in northern Indianapolis. This event is open to all alumni and parents of members of the Epsilon Mu chapter. Refreshments and lunch will be served, at no cost to Alumni or families, by Parrett’s Hog Roasting and Catering. All alumni and parents are encouraged to attend. Cost will be $49 to ride the course. First tee-time is at 7:00AM. Please RSVP to Brother Lyons via email at rlyons@butler.edu.

"Remember When...?"

March 2, 2007 - The candidate class for 2006-2007 earned a Third Place finish in Freshman Skits on Friday, March 2. This year's theme was “Remember When…?” and our 21 pledges told the story of a group of young men looking back on their time at Butler. After declaring “I Wish I Could Go Back to College,” (from Avenue Q) these fine young men sang their way through other musical numbers, including “Bad to the Bone,” “Reflection,” “I’m In Love With a Beaker,” “Bic in a Box,” “Irreplaceable,” and “We Go Together.” This marks the fourth time in five years that the men of Sigma Nu have finished among the top three in this inter-fraternity activity.

Butler Chapter Hosts Regional Conferences

February 24, 2007 - National Headquarters of Sigma Nu in Lexington, VA, once again selected the Butler Chapter as the host of both a LEAD Institute and a Recruitment institute. Both institutes were held at the Fairbanks Center for Communication on February 11, 2006. Epsilon Mu Completes 2007 Recruitment Season

February 20, 2007 - The Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu has recently completed its winter recruitment for 2007. We have attained an admirable group of 18 men, among the largest new-member classes at Butler this year. This bright assemblage of young Sigma Nus have the highest GPA of all fraternity pledge classes with an approximate 3.7 cumulative average. With such diverse majors as Pharmacy, Lyric Theatre, and International Business, these young men will help to ensure that our chapter continues to grow into a strong brotherhood that stresses individuality while remaining true to the common ideals of Love, Truth, and Honor.

Brother Elected to Inter-Fraternity Council Executive Board

November 28, 2006 - Brother Sean Woolen (EM1245) has been elected to serve on the Executive Board of the Inter-fraternity Council. This marks the second time in three years that the Epsilon Mu chapter will be represented on the Board. Sean will be serving as the Vice President of Communications. Congratulations, Sean!

November 6, 2006 - Three members of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu were inducted into the Nu Epsilon Chapter of Order of Omega. Brothers Greg Moser (EM1210), Ross Lyons (EM1217), and Bryan Frauhiger (EM1236) were among ten men chosen on the Butler campus to join this honor society. This is a privilege given to only the top 3% of the total Greek population. Congratulations!

Chapter Wins Homecoming 2006

October 21, 2006 - Homecoming 2006 was a very successful event for the men of Sigma Nu. This year's theme was Butler Days, Hollywood Nights and featured the traditional "Yell Like Hell" and parade competitions, among others. The men of Sigma Nu placed in every event:

September 15, 2006 - Sigma Nu won this year's Frisbee Fling, the annual philanthropic competition hosted by Alpha Chi Omega. Paired with partners Alpha Phi, the men of Sigma Nu came in first place in the Woodstock-themed Frisbee Fling to benefit the Julian Center.

Sigma Nu Hosts Dodgeball Tournament

September 9, 2006 - The men of Sigma Nu hosted the first annual 5D Dodgeball Tournament. The event, open to all Butler University students, faculty, and staff, was an immense success, raising over $1000 in tshirt sales alone.

Butler University Begins 06-07

August 23, 2006 - Butler University began its 2006-07 school year with a near record Freshman class - 972 students. This year’s class is just four students smaller than the record-setting freshman class of 2003. It includes 403 students from out of state (up from 386 last year) as well as students from 16 countries. Sigma Nu welcomes these students to Butler, and is looking forward to learning all that they have to offer.

Grand Chapter Honors

July 18, 2006 - The 2006 Grand Chapter proved to be a fruitful event for the Epsilon Mu chapter, as the chapter hosted the international convention in Indianapolis. The chapter was awarded six honors including:

  • Excellence in LEAD Phase I
  • Excellence in LEAD Phase II
  • Excellence in LEAD Phase III
  • The Regent's Award for Academic Excellence
  • Top 10 Pursuit of Excellence Award
  • International Talent of the Year - Greg Moser (Speech and Debate)

This makes the third consecutive year that the Epsilon Mu chapter has been recognized as one of the Top 10 fraternity chapters in the world. Additionally, the chapter was one of only two awarded "Excellence in LEAD Phase III" for innovation in ethical leadership training, showing that the Butler chapter continues to lead the nation on the path to excellence.

Congratulations to Sigma Nu Graduates

May 13, 2006 - Epsilon Mu has finished the 2005-2006 academic year in fine fashion, graduating five seniors. Brothers Jason Arnett, Brian Daniels, Greg Campanello, Gordon Johnson, and Jason Mobley have joined our 1,200 other alumni in the post-graduate world. Sigma Nu has also earned one of the top GPAs on the campus for the Spring 2006 semester. The chapter has also claimed the highest new-member GPA of all fraternities. Sigma Nu is proud to continue its tradition of excellence as Sigma Nu has never ranked outside of the top 3 on the Butler campus and has held the highest gpa for 4 of the past 8 semesters.

Sigma Nu Announced as Top Fundraisers for "Relay for Life"

April 15, 2006 - The annual Relay for Life, benefiting the American Cancer Society, was held on Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15, 2006. Sigma Nu was announced as the top fundraiser. The chapter was led by brothers Steve Christopherson, Joe Bowman, Greg Moser and Scott Fisher.

Sigma Nu Wins Spring Sing 2006

April 1, 2006 - The men of the Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu competed in the annual Spring Sing competition on Saturday, April 1. This year's theme was "Happy Birthday Butler."Paired with the ladies of Delta Gamma, Sigma Nu's program featured such songs as "Brass Monkey" by the Beastie Boys and " Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys. The Sigma Nu show was once again the most innovative program, utilizing such things as strobe lighting effects. The men of Sigma Nu also won the Spirit Award and the award for Judge's Favorite. Philanthropic Success for World Vision

April 1, 2006 - Sigma Nu’s 2006 philanthropy week benefiting World Vision, was extremely successful. Money raised totaled nearly $5,000, all of which will be donated to World Vision. Over 120 hours of service and fundraising were logged throughout the week, raising funds for World Vision International. Other activities included the annual “Gentlemen’s Day,” holding penny wars among the sorority houses on campus, having a live auction of brothers, and selling t-shirts that promoted the fourth annual World Vision Bowl.

Freshman Skits 2006

March 3, 2006 - The candidate class for Spring 2006 earned a Second Place finish in Freshman Skits on Friday, March 3. This year's theme was “Butler on Broadway” and our 21 pledges told the story of a group of young men trying to pay $34,000 each to attend Butler University. After declaring that it is “A Hard Knock Life,” (from Annie) these fine young men sang their way through other Broadway shows, including Avenue Q, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Finishing in first place was Phi Kappa Psi, and the men of Delta Tau Delta rounded out the top 3.

Butler Hosts Sigma Nu Institutes

February 11, 2006 - National Headquarters of Sigma Nu in Lexington, VA, selected the Butler Chapter as the host of both a LEAD Institute and a Recruitment institute. Both institutes were held at the chapter house on February 11, 2006. Facilitators included Scott Smith (Leadership Consultant) and Russ Hammond (Director of Expansion and Recruitment). Epsilon Mu Completes 2006 Recruitment Season

February 1, 2006 - The Epsilon Mu chapter of Sigma Nu has recently completed its winter recruitment for 2006. We have attained an admirable group of 21 men. This bright assemblage of young Sigma Nus have the highest GPA of all fraternity pledge classes with an approximate 3.5 cumulative average. With such diverse majors as Pharmacy, Biology, History, and Arts Administration, these young men will help to ensure that our chapter continues to grow into a strong brotherhood that stresses individuality while remaining true to the common ideals of Love, Truth, and Honor.

Epsilon Mu Selected to Host Grand Chapter

The 62nd Grand Chapter will be held July 15-19, 2006, at the Downtown Marriott on Maryland Street. Indianapolis, the nation's 12th largest city, has gone through a dramatic revitalization that makes it a different place than it was even just a decade ago.
