What is manuscripts?

Manuscripts is a student-run literary magazine published annually by the English Department of Butler University. We are fortunate as a student body to have a profusion of gifted writers, poets, artists, and photographers who contribute their work to the magazine, making each year's issue even better than the last. The magazine exists to celebrate and promote university writers, regardless of whether or not they have chosen to make writing their area of study.

In addition to promoting the written work of students, Manuscripts supports the arts on campus through their partnership with the Coffeehouse Committee and the SGA Program Board, holding frequent open mic nights throughout the school year. These events feature readings by student poets as well as performances by Butler's many talented musicians, and offer an opportunity for students, faculty, and the surrounding community to gather in appreciation of the written word. Manuscripts also continues to strive for excellence on a statewide and national level, representing Butler at such events as the Indiana Poetry Festival and earning recognition by the Indiana Collegiate Press Association (ICPA).

In 2005, Butler's sesquicentennial year, Manuscripts celebrates over sixty-five years of commitment to student creativity and literary excellence. As the university continues to expand and change, it is our hope that Manuscripts remains a proud Butler tradition, growing in scope and meaning with each new year.
