ALPHA PHI FIRSTS

  • Alpha Phi was the first women's society to use Greek letters as an emblem.

  • Alpha Phi was the first sorority to establish a foundation. The Alpha Phi Foundation was established in 1957.

  • In 1886, Alpha Phi became the first women's fraternity in America to build and occupy its own chapter house.

  • In 1894, Alpha Phi became the first women's fraternity to use "traveling delegates," now known as Educational Leadership Consultants.

  • Alpha Phi was the first to have an international website.

  • Alpha Phi called the inter-sorority meeting that resulted in the formation of the association now known as the National Panhellenic Conference. This was the first intergroup organization on college campuses. In 1902 the meeting included Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, and Delta Delta Delta. Today the Conference includes 26 organizations.

  • Alpha Phi was the first women’s fraternity to publish a magazine. The Alpha Phi Quarterly is an award-winning magazine and has been in uninterrupted publication since 1888.
